Second Life Main Grid Game

Second Life is a virtual world created in 2003 by Linden Lab that allows users to interact in an online 3D environment. There are many potential educational benefits to using Second Life, such as allowing students to visit other locations, learn about other cultures, and develop collaboration and communication skills through interacting with other online communities. However, some universities spent thousands building areas in Second Life but later abandoned them and switched to alternative open-source virtual worlds like OpenSim due to Second Life no longer providing an academic discount and concerns about student safety interacting with strangers. While Second Life aligns with certain ISTE technology standards, there are risks in using it for education, especially for young students.

Second Life Main Grid

1
Second Life is a virtual worlds and open source. It
created in 2003 by Linden Lab, a digital- entertainment
company. There are many benefits of Second Life in
education such as:
Visit other countries without leaving the classroom
Learn about other cultures and acquire new skills
doing so
Engage in new forms of communication with others
Further develop your people skills
New ways of solving problems which you are
unable to do so in the real world.
Connect with other online communities, forging
new links and friendships.
New opportunities for collaboration/social
interaction
Self-paced learning to suit all learning styles
Opportunities to create, comment and share
content with other users.
Integrate within a blended learning system
Many universities spend thousands of dollars to build
Second Life such as University of North Carolina,
Delaware, and Indian University, and how they lost after
years every their Second Life buildings. Also, it stopped
its academic discount, and that affects its scholars,
which support them to search for an alternative open
source. So, many educational Institutions use OpenSim
Instead of Second Life.

In my opinion, I think Second Life is not the safe
place, and using it in the education is not a good idea
especially for kids because there are many strangers
can talking and chatting with the players.

Second life matches the following ISTE standards.

T1-A promote, support, and model creative and
innovative thinking and inventiveness
T1-D model collaborative knowledge construction
by engaging in learning with students, colleagues,
and others in face-to face and virtual environments
T3-A demonstrate fluency in technology systems
and the transfer of current knowledge to new
technologies and situations
T4-C promote and model digital etiquette and
responsible social interactions related to the use of
technology and information
T4-D develop and model cultural understanding
and global awareness by engaging with colleagues
and students of other cultures using digital-age
communication and collaborative tools
T5-A participate in local and global learning
communities to explore creative applications of
technology to improve student learning
