Dyslexia is a learning difficulty characterized by problems with reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension. It is caused by differences in brain structure and function and has a strong genetic component. Dyslexia exists on a spectrum of severity. Interventions include systematic phonics instruction, writing to reinforce phonics skills, multisensory math instruction, self-regulation strategies, limiting visual overload, using audiobooks, positive feedback, and assessing content mastery rather than how it is achieved. Dyslexia affects 15-20% of people and is the most common learning disability.

Reading:
Systematic phonics teaching
Grapheme/phoneme correspondences in a clearly defined, incremental sequence
To apply the highly important skill of blending (synthesizing) phonemes in order, all through
a word to read it
To apply the skills of segmenting words into their constituent phonemes to spell
That blending and segmenting are reversible processes

Writing
Encourage students to write letters, sound patterns (graphemes), words, and sentences to support
and reinforce segmentation strategies and the acquisition of phonics rules.

Math
Multisensory active and interactive integration of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile
elements of teaching

Self-regulation
Give students time to breathe to refresh their body if feeling overwhelmed
Have students set goals

Visual
Not over visualizing by covering pictures in text and the other sentences below to go line by line
while reading
