Free ANSYS Student Software

The course is designed to be used with the free ANSYS Student

software (version 17.2), which can be downloaded
at http://www.ansys.com/student.

Although the lecture videos were recorded using version 16.2, we

recommend that you download and install ANSYS Student
17.2 since it is a newer version that is certified on Windows 10, 8.1,
8 and 7. The differences between versions 17.2 and 16.2 are minor
and are noted in the videos. If you have access to a commercial or
academic version of ANSYS, you can use that instead of ANSYS
Student. The difference between the student, academic and
commercial versions boils down to the license key needed to unlock
software features. The student version is limited only in the size of
the problems that can be solved and contains both Mechanical and
Fluid Dynamics capabilities, whereas these physics often require
multiple commercial product licenses.

Follow the installation videos below while downloading and installing

ANSYS. Many students have run into problems because they went through the
installation without watching the videos. Do NOT install the ANSYS License
Manager. This is a mistake many people make and will cause
problems.

You need a computer running Microsoft Windows (64-bit) to

install ANSYS Student. See ANSYS platform support for details. If you
do not have access to a Windows computer, you have the option of
taking advantage of FRAME Cloud Personal pricing that allows users to
run ANSYS in a web browser on any device without the need to install
it locally.
