SAP BOBI Server Installation Step-by-Step Part1

Hello everyone,

Most of us might have thought many a times that what if I have my own SAP
BusinessObjects BI server with all the clients to practice all its tools and their
functionalities. In this article we are going to learn about the step-by-step installation
process of SAP BOBI Platform on laptop with windows 8 operating system (same process
can be followed for windows 7 laptop as well).

We are going to cover end to end installation process with screen shots in 3 parts. Two
parts contains installation steps and third one contains post installation steps.

If you would like to get an overview about SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence
Platform, please go through this article Introduction to SAP BOBI 4.1 platform.

System Requirements:

Before we start with our installation, lets check if our system meets the below system
requirements.

Only 64 bit operating systems are supported for installation of BI in windows


platform.
Ensure that there is at least 2 Gigabytes of free space available in your system to
store temporary files and web applications.
Ensure that there is at least 30 Gigabytes of free space available in your system
where program files are stored.
Ensure that the file path where we install BI platform shouldnt exceed 256
characters.
Note: SAP BI server can only be installed on a server OS (like Windows server 2012 R2)
but not on client OS (like Windows 7 or 8), however we will do some tweaking in the
installation files to make it run on client OS (in our case it is windows 8 system).

Optional*: Download the SAP HOST Agent If you are planning to use SLD (SAP
System landscape Directory)

Download SAPCAR a compression utility to unzip the downloaded files.

Download temporary license key (for personal usage provided by SAP with limited

Operating System Permissions:

To install the BI platform on a Windows host, we must have the below permissions:
Installation Process:

The files which we had downloaded earlier has contains compressed files in them, unzip
and keep them ready for installation.

We have two different methods of running the installation program for the BI platform:

Interactive installation: An interactive wizard prompts for all information related


to the installation. *Use this option to select individual installation options from
a series of screens. This is the default installation method.

Silent installation: In this type the Installation options are given on the
command-line or in a text file.
*This option is useful if you want to install the same configuration on
multiple machines.
