A Hero's Journey

"It is not only serving God but it is a matter also of extending service to others" said
Mr.Johnriel Bracero, an HM instructor. A quote where he sees life despite of the failures he
encountered before reaching his career now as one of the TCC's Instructor.

Q: Who are you? (Before and After)

What are the changes in your life?
A: Before, I was a seminarian and before I became a seminarian it's just I'm a little hopeless
person. Why? I came from a very poor family, I am the only one who proceed to college
because of financial matter. Even though, I am the valedictorian and salutotorian during many
tine but financially we are nothing. Actually, I got a scholarship and I studied UC (University of
Cebu) with a year but even though I am a full scholar, my allowances can't suffice my finances.
Therefore, I stopped and work for my family as well. Then, my cousin who is a nun invites me
to join the seminary on the year 2005. I went to seminary in Cansojong, Talisay. I got many
things, I learned many things. Therefore, by the time I went out last 2016, I studied DPE here.
While I studied DPE, they gave me units and those units are my first teaching units. It's God's
grace because I am the one who send me to school, I pay my tuition, I pay my own daily
expenses. It helped a lot and thanks to Dr.Plantar for recommending me here. Then, after my
studies, I directly go into LET. I took the LET last March without any preparation. I do not have
reviews since I have my 14 section class this year. God gave me a lot. He gave me 80.20
passing score. I went here as a hopeless person but I rely to God and he gave me everything in
His will.

Q: Do you have failures in life before reaching your career now? If yes, what are those
failures?
A: Yes, I had a lot of failures in life. First, family failures, I went through a broken family once.
Then, another failure, when I was in seminary I went out seminary two years after I entered. I
realized that the people inside the seminary is not what I'm thinking. It was a shocking
moment for me when I saw a priest and a nun scold somebody but then I realized also that is
our/their nature. So therefore, my failures lead me to success today because without the
failures. I am not to what who am I today. I an not teacher.

Q: What makes you a person today as a teacher?

A: What makes me a person ans a teacher today is my experience in life. These experiences
help me a lot to discover who is really me and it gives me strength to face every challenges in
life because of my weaknesses of mine before it becomes my strength today. I know that it is
not me who strengthen myself but it is God.

Q: Do you love teaching? Why Talisay City College?

A: Teaching if a very challenging profession. Actually, before when I was a kid. I really hate
teaching because I hate my teachers. I don't want to become a teacher buy later on, while I'm
studying here, then during my PRACTICOM in Tabunok Night High School, I got challenged
with my children. How the way they behaved and realized that they were like before.
Therefore, what I hated is what I love now. I love it. I love to teach because I can share my
experiences emotionally and physically. TCC gives me a break life this and this is my first
school where I exercise my teaching career. Then, here, I have realized that teaching is not
only a profession but a vocation as well and teaching is life for me because it is continuous.
TCC makes me professional that's why I love TCC.

Q: What are your advice to our young student?

A: To our young students, be courageous enough to face challenges because challenges is
everywhere. Then, positive thinking always. That's what I'm doing. I always take positive
things. Don't lose hope and ask God always to give something, to give grace.

God is the center of everything and failures teaches him on how to become strong but it
never teaches him to give up.
