Dear Families,
The Ugly Pumpkins were a huge hit this year! Not only did the kids enjoy them but everyone who came
by our room this week commented on how ugly our pumpkins are! The kids beamed with pride every time!
We used the pumpkins to practice measuring height, weight and circumference. We also compared the
pumpkins using our new comparative math language (tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest, heavy, heavier,
and heaviest, etc.). We even found the circumference of our pumpkins. They were delighted that one of the
pumpkins was very short but also had a very large circumference. Thank you for taking the time to find and send
the pumpkins and helping to make our learning extra fun this week!
In reading and science we were learning about nocturnal animals with a focus on owls. The kids have a
few new poems about owls and bats in their poetry folder and one surprise sight word poem. They love to find
the little surprise poems. These are poems that we have not read in class but all the kids should be able to read
by using the sight words we have learned so far this year.
This week we started our Arts Council visiting artist program. Ms. Bianca Siplin comes to our classroom on
Mondays and Wednesdays after lunch to engage the kids in some dramatic arts fun! At first I was concerned about letting
go of 45 minutes twice a week with the kids. Then Bianca came and she is so wonderful! This week the kids were working
in small groups to prepare presentations about how animals act. I cant wait to see what else she has in store for our
little stars this year.
Enjoy your little one,
Mrs. Clare
