Instructors Message
We will be learning the human disease processes based on your prior knowledge of human anatomy and
physiology. Knowing anatomy and physiology is crucial to successfully understand the
pathophysiological process. The knowledge gained in this class will be directly applicable to the
different professions in the health sciences. You can be successful in this course by completing all the
assignments and tests as per the due date. There are tests and assignments due every week. Do not
procrastinate. Prepare to spend at least 2 hours every day to be successful not only in this course but
also in whatever health profession goal you desire. You have to buy / rent the required Text Book. You
will not need the access code. If at any time you would like to meet with me in person, you can set up an
appointment via email, and we can meet in my office which is LS 216 at GCC Main Campus. You have 24
hours after each test to request an appointment with me if you would like to review the test. We can
then meet at a convenient date and time within 7 days at my office. There is not review for the Final

Other Resources
This is an online class. Lecture materials will be made available on canvas power points or voice over
power points. Students will be responsible for the class content and the reading assignments. Ongoing
class assessments will be done by tests and assignments. The tests and assignments are individual work.
Academic integrity is to be maintained at all times. Refer to Student Handbook for Academic and
Professional Standards, Student Responsibilities and online etiquette.
There are 16 weekly tests. Each test is worth 50 points and it is to be completed by the following Sunday
midnight. Every test will include terminologies that are given in the outline. There are 2 comprehensive
Exams, the midterm exam is on 10/22 and the Final exam is on 12/14. Each of the comprehensive test is
worth 100 points. The question type will be objective in nature. The tests and exams are timed. You
cannot go back to the previous question once you start the test. Test reviews will only be done in person
with appointment to maintain academic integrity.
Tests and comprehensive examinations must be taken as scheduled. Exceptions must be pre-approved
by faculty. Failure to make arrangements prior to missing an examination may result in a grade of zero
for that examination. It is an expectation that all tests, assignments and exams are done individually.
Reproduction of the tests in any form is strongly condemned and academic integrity is to be maintained
during the tests.
At the end of the course your final letter grade will be assigned according to the following scale.
Extra Credits
There is one extra credit assignment worth 5 points every week (total 16) to a total of 80 points. You will
also have extra credit questions on the tests. Extra credit works are optional but strongly recommended
to improve your overall grades, as well as to apply the knowledge that you have gained.
Attendance
Students are expected to complete all their reading assignments, homework assignments, tests, extra
credit assignments and exams as per the due dates. Zero points will be awarded for late / non
submission of assignments, tests and exams. In case of emergency, the student who missed the test
shall request to take the test at a later date only if it is approved by the instructor. The request has to be
made at least 48 hours before the test or assignment is due. The tests, exams or the assignments cannot
be retaken.
Student Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the student to notify the Office of Admissions and Records for withdrawals to
discontinue the course. Students are responsible for the information in the syllabus. Students are
responsible for following the college policies as found in the College Catalog and the student

not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating on tests, copying partial or full
assignments, plagiarizing from published sources, or allowing others to copy from you. Disciplinary

This online classroom will be a safe learning environment for every individual as far as I am able to
ensure that outcome. This means I will treat each student with respect, and in turn I expect respect to
be given to the instructor and every individual in this course. Disagreement does not equal disrespect.
We all bring different points of view, different personal values, different life experiences, and different
personal preferences with us into the classroom. This diversity makes for great discussion, adds
interesting dimensions to our interpersonal relationships, and is welcome in the academic arena.
Though we celebrate our differences, I expect each student to respect the rights and needs of fellow
classmates. Students cannot feel safe to express themselves without the assurance that their ideas,
attitudes and beliefs will be treated with respect.
Should you require any type of special accommodations, including a learning disability, please contact
the Disability Resources and Services office at 623-845-3080 and also notify your instructor.
Any part of this course, as outlined and described above and in other student handout is subject to
change at the instructors discretion. Students will be notified by the instructor of any changes in course
requirements or policies. Due to the nature of the course, personal and sensitive issues such as AIDS,
birth control, teenage pregnancies, STDs and other related issues will be discussed and all measures will
be taken to present this information in a professional manner. There is a lot to cover and so please be
prompt in completing the reading assignments, tests, exams and homework assignments to be
