Maths Tricks

1) Multiplying a two-digit number by 11 involves writing the digits on either side of the answer with the middle digit being the sum of the original digits. 2) When multiplying two numbers separated by 2 (e.g. 7 and 5), the answer is just one bigger than the numbers multiplied that are one less (e.g. 6x4). 3) To square a two-digit number ending in 5, add 1 to the tens place, multiply that by the original tens place and add 25 to the end.

MATHS TRICKS

Lets see how Maths can be fun

1 THE 11 TRICK!!
Multiplying any two digit number by 11:
Example: 36 x 11
1) Write the first and second digit of the two digit number on each end of the solution.
Example: 36 x 11 = 3 ___ 6
2) The middle digit of the solution will be the sum of the first and second digits of the two digit number.
Example: 3_(3+6)_6=396
This is true for any other two digit number being multiplied by 11
13 x 11 = 1_(1+3)_3
Ans. : 143
2 The same number multiplication:
When the numbers we are multiplying are separated by 2 (for example 7 and 5), then multiply the
number in the middle by itself and subtract one:
55 = 25 is just one bigger than 64 = 24
66 = 36 is just one bigger than 75 = 35
77 = 49 is just one bigger than 86 = 48
88 = 64 is just one bigger than 97 = 63

3 Easy steps for Squaring 2 digit numbers ending with a 5:

Example: Squaring 75 i.e. (75 * 75)
1) Take the tens digit of the number, (7 in this case) and add 1 to it. (7+1=8)
2) Now multiply the original tens digit with this new number. ( 7*8=56)
3) Now take the result so obtained (56) and place 25 after it. (5625)
4) The result obtained is your answer. (Thus, the square of 75 is 5625.)
Try this with other two digit numbers ending with 5.
4 Making multiplication easier:-
*Multiplying two digit numbers (less than 100 and greater or equal to 80) with each other:
Example:- 95 x 97
Steps: 1) Find the difference of each number from 100:
95 x 97
53
2) Cross Subtract the difference
(95-3)=(97-5)=92 => This is the first part of the answer
3) Multiply the differences
5 x 3 = 15 => This is the last part of the answer
THUS, 95 x 97 = 9215
*Multiplying three digit numbers
(greater than 100 and less than or equal to 120) with each other:
Example:- 107 x 104
Steps: 1) Find the difference of each number from 100:
107 x 104
74
2) Cross add the difference
(107+4)=(104+7)=111 => This is the first part of the answer
3) Multiply the differences:
7x4=28 => This is the last part of the answer
THUS, 107x104= 11128
5 To multiply a number by 5
Step 1: Divide by 2
Step 2: Move the decimal point to the right. (Multiply by 10)
For example: 1450x5
Step 1: 1450/2 ==> 725
Step 2: 725x10==> 7250 Ans.
