MANCOM Speech

The document discusses the challenges facing children today in a complex, technology-driven world. While children in the past played outside without distractions, today's children have many gadgets and instant access to information from around the world through technology. This poses new challenges in preparing children to be citizens not just of their country, but of the world. Addressing this will require input from education experts to develop programs that instill global awareness and adaptability to changing times in students. Education remains the key to meeting challenges and creating a better future.

My respect to our Schools Division Superintendent, Teresita Real.

(greetings other guests and school supervisors and administrators)

Society, as we know it, today, is a complex web of values, and realities. The challenges
before our children are most definitely not the same ones that we faced in our childhood.
Before the Ipad, and the Internet, the world was much simpler. Before, when we were
bored, all we had to do was go out and play with the kids outside. We did not mind the
heat or the dust, we played. It was fun!

Now, kids, are much more complex they have gadgets, they live in this world and the
world, at large the world is at their fingertips, so to speak. Issues that abound on the
other side of the hemisphere reach them as it would just be a click away. Technology has
made the world smaller and with it comes a wave of challenges. While we live in the
present, we can also be in the past and in the future. Sounds contradicting, how can one
live in the past, present and in the future, all at the same time? Technology and the
availability of information give us a glimpse of the past, while living in the present and the
power to anticipate the future. This to me is the challenge before the next generation and
us.

The question that has hounded me, as a public official, and a citizen, is how do we prepare
our children to be not just citizens of this country, but as citizens of this world?

I do not have a ready-made answer. Its a question that perhaps would take a community
to answer and not an individual, it would take several Management Committee
(MANCOM) meetings like this. I would like to submit this concern before this
commendable body of the academe who has the upper hand in molding our future and
our children.

This notwithstanding, I am indeed privileged that I am are given this precious chance to
be part of this MANCOM and to be able to give my sincere thanks to the outgoing
Asst.Supt. Florence ________ for all the great works she has done to Siargao Division
and specially to the Socorronhons. Also, it is one for the books that I get to give my
warmest congratulations to my kababayan , Mam Harem L. Taruc for this new position
she is about to take for I know shes more than qualified for it.

Now please allow me to welcome each and everyone on todays MANCOM and I hope
and pray that with all the problems and challenges before us, we will be able to come up
with activities and programs that will instill in our children global awareness and the need
to adapt to the changing times.

Education, to me, is still the answer to the challenges before us and our generation and
that of those that will come after us. Education is a potent tool to propel us to a better and
brighter future.

Ignorance is a poor Mans companion; Education is the best weapon that one can
possess.

Daghang salamat ug maajong buntag sa tanan!
