Beginning and Spanish I
Entering the Classroom
1. Always enter through the door on the right.
2. If it is the first day of the week, pick up your warm up sheet as you
enter.
3. Be seated quietly. Take out your homework.
4. Begin your warm up.
Exiting the Classroom
1. Remain seated until the teacher gives you permission to get up, even if
the bell has already rung!
2. Ensure that you have copied down your homework and cleaned your
space.
3. ALL students must be seated with clean spaces before they will be
dismissed by the teacher.
4. Last period: Put chairs on top of the desks.
What do I do if I arrive late?
1. Enter the classroom without talking.
2. Sign the tardy log. If you have a pass, place it in the basket by the
tardy log.
3. Have a seat. If students are working independently or in groups, ask
the person next to you what you are to do and begin your work.
How do I ask a question?
1. Raise your hand and wait patiently for the teacher to call on you. Do
not call out.
2. Use Spanish whenever possible. If it is a phrase that we have learned
in class, you will be expected to ask in Spanish.
Talking in class and giving the teacher your attention
1. Talking in class, unless given permission, is not permitted.
2. When the teacher raises her hand while you are working, it is a sign for
you to pause whatever you are doing and give the teacher your FULL
attention.
When can I move around the classroom?
1. Only move around the classroom with permission.
2. TRASH: All trash remains on your desk until you exit the classroom
after you are dismissed.
3. PENCIL SHARPENING: Pencils may only be sharpened before class. That
means before the bell rings.
When can I go to the bathroom or to drink water?
1. You may not ask to go while the teacher is giving instruction.
2. Raise your hand and make the request in Spanish:
¿Puedo ir al baño? or ¿Puedo ir a tomar agua?
3. Hand the teacher your passbook to sign.
4. You are only allowed TWO bathroom/water breaks per advisory.
5. No bathroom and water breaks the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes
of class.
What do I do if I finish my work early?
1. Have the teacher check your work for completion.
2. Once given permission, you may get a Spanish book or activity
worksheet. You should also retrieve your enrichment folder.
3. Return to your seat and quietly begin the activity.
4. Place any completed work in your enrichment folder and return the
folder to the crate.
What do I do if I am unprepared?
1. ALWAYS come to class prepared with your notebook, writing utensil,
assignment and book/workbook. Coming to class unprepared will result
in deducted points.
2. Ask your neighbor BEFORE class begins to lend you a pen/pencil.
What do I do if I am absent?
1. At the beginning of the year you will be assigned a buddy. You will
exchange e-mail addresses/other contact information.
2. You are responsible for checking in with your buddy and checking
EDLINE.
3. Your buddy is responsible for sharing any missed notes, collecting the
handout and informing you of any missed assignments.
4. When you return you may check the make-up work bin for any missed
assignments.
5. Check EDLINE!
Make-up work
1. Make-up work can be found in the bin.
2. You have one week from the day you return to hand in all missed
work/make up any missed tests/quizzes.
Quiz/Test Taking procedure
1. We will separate the desks.
2. There is NO talking during testing.
3. Keep your eyes on your own paper.
4. We will switch and grade the quizzes. The teacher will collect and
grade the tests.
Student Portfolios
1. Each student has their own folder that will be kept in the classroom.
2. Quizzes, tests and other important assignments will be maintained in
this folder.
3. You will also use the folder to track your progress and mastery of the
objectives.
Tickets
1. Tickets will be given out at the teacher’s discretion for good behavior,
participation, etc.
2. As soon as you receive a ticket write your name on the back of the
ticket.
3. Tickets will be collected at the end of every week for a drawing.
Use of technology
1. Technology in the classroom (computers, tv, smartboard, etc.) may
only be used with the teacher’s permission and for educational
purposes.
2. Use of translation programs on the computer is not allowed. Get a
dictionary, please .
Fire Drills
1. Stand up without talking
2. Push your chairs in quietly
3. Form a straight line against the wall
4. The first person in line gets the emergency procedure booklet
5. The last person in line turns off the lights and closes the door
6. Walk on the right side of the hallway
7. Stand quietly at the destination and respond promptly when the
teacher calls your name.
