Although sumos history goes back to ancient times, it

became a professional sport in the early period
(16001868).Today, this almost exclusively male sport
is practiced. By clubs in high schools and universities, as well as by amateur associations. Both in

The object of a sumo match is forth wrestler to force his opponent out of the dohyo or make him

the center of the ring, the two wrestlers usually spend
several minutes in a preparation ritual, extending
their arms, stamping their feet , squatting ,and glaring
at each other.
Handfuls of salt are repeatedly tossed into the air to
purify the ring.
After this extended warm up, a match of ten ends in
matter of seconds ,although some may continue for
several minutes, and a few even require a brief to
allow the wrestlers to rest before concluding the bout.
Winning techniques in sumo,of which there are70, involve pushing or lifting out of the ring; using a
grip on the belt tothrow ones opponent down, leg trips, jumping quickly to the side during the
initial charge and slapping the opponent off balance, and digging in at the edge of the straw ring to
toss an opponent out, just before falling out oneself.
Sumo is especially admired for its dignity and composure.

Arguments over are fereesruling or displays of poor sports manship are unheard of.While vigorous
open handed slaps to the upper body are permitted ,such tactics as striking with fists,kicking,andhair-
pulling are strictly prohibited.

therefore which side of the ring they will enter everyday they compete. The highest ranks ,in
descending order ,are yokozuna(grand champion),ozeki(champion),and sekiwake(junior champion).

5.1_ RECOMMANDATION
As the game is developing with the passing years, the popularity and potentiality should be
increased even higher.
It should be introduced in the school athletics and in other annual sports so that it can be
practiced and get familiar to the people.
Professional trainers should be there to train up the bolis so that they can know the rules of
other countries wrestling.
Like Banglalink, more big companies should come forward to sponsor the event.
More Newspaper agencies should come forward to publish journals and spread it to the outer
people of the districts even outside of the country through their websites.
Government should come forward for the development and utilize such age old tradition of the
country as a great source to represent our history beside of the other countries. So that the game
can be promoted outside and can get the internationalization.
