4. ELECTORATE
The Election Commission of India having announced the schedule I. J&K State-wise 18
for Parliamentary Elections in the country, the polls for the six Lok Sabha II. Constituency-wise 19
seats of Anantnag, Srinagar, Baramulla, Ladakh, Jammu and Udhampur in III. District-wise 25
J&K will be held in five phases beginning April 16, 2009. In order to make the IV. Division -wise 46

on April 16, has a total electorate of 17,21,696, which is the highest
for any Parliamentary constituency. The total voters also include
23,674 service electors. Out of them, 8,89,562 are male and 8,32,134

elections. Mr. Madan Lal Sharma of INC won the Parliamentary seat

constituency. Rajpora in Pulwama district, Wachi and Shopian in Shopian district,
Noorabad, Kulgam, Homeshalibug and Devsar in Kulgam district and
Anantnag, Dooru, Kokernag, Shangas, Bijbehara and Pahalgam in
Anantnag district.
Anantnag district leads with 4,37,708 voters which include
2,26,642 male and 2,11,066 female voters. Pulwama district follows
with 3,00,705 electors including 1,56,646 male and 1,44,059 female
electors. Kulgam district has 2,83,814 registered voters which
include 1,53,825 male and 1,29,989 female voters. Shopian district
has the lowest number of electorate in the Anantnag Parliamentary
constituency with 1,43,724, which includes 74,845 male and 68,879
female voters.
As many as 1,485 polling stations, spread across 16
segments of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, will be set up to facilitate
voters. These include 1,257 main and 228 auxiliary polling stations.
Anantnag district again leads with 556 polling stations.

Bye-elections 2009 to J&K Legislative Assembly 2008, PDP by a margin of 4,272 votes. While Dr. Abdullah polled 11,041
being held along with the Parliemantary elections votes, Ms. Asiea polled 6,769 votes. The total votes polled were
24,720 and the percentage was recorded at 28.91.
