Digital Unit Plan Template Unit Title: Geometric Figures Name: Juliet Yoo Content Area: Math 7 Grade Level: 7

This unit plan outlines a 7th grade math unit on geometric figures. Students will learn to find the areas of rectangles and triangles using formulas. They will apply their knowledge to solve problems involving missing lengths. Students will construct geometric shapes using tools and technology. They will draw shapes on iPads and measure to calculate areas. Later, students will use a graphic organizer to solve for missing lengths given an area and other measurements. The unit aims to develop students' understanding of geometric concepts and applying area formulas to real-world problems.

Unit Title: Geometric Figures Name: Juliet Yoo

Content Area: Math 7 Grade Level: 7th
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
CCSS.Math.7.G.1
Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and
reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
CCSS.Math,7.G.3
Draw (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology) geometric shapes with given conditions. Focus on constructing triangles
from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle.
CCSS.Math.7.G.6
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of
triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

-How do you use an equation to find the area of a rectangle and triangle?
-How do I use properties of a triangle to find the missing measurements?
-How do you construct a geometric figure?

Student Learning Objectives:

-Students will use the equations of a rectangle and a triangle to find the areas.
-Students will solve for missing lengths of a geometric figure.
-Students will draw and measure geometric figures using mathematical technology and tools.
Unit Summary:

Students will be introduced to the study of geometry, a branch of math that involves relations with points, lines, and shapes. Students will get
familiar with shapes and geometric figures. They will learn to find the area of a square and triangle. As they memorize different equations for
specific shapes, they will apply their knowledge to find missing lengths and sides of a figure. Students will be able to construct geometric
shapes and determine its areas.

equations for areas of Students are able to solve - Teacher will explain the equation for the area of a rectangle and identify the
rectangles and triangles and problems by applying the width and length of a rectangle.

understanding. - Teacher and the class will discuss the answer and apply their thoughts to a
practice question.
- Teacher will go over the formula for area of a triangle.
- Students will put to practice the formula on practice problems.
- Teacher will walk around to make sure students are understanding and solving
the problems correctly.
- Teacher will instruct students to get out their computers and go on
Voicethread.
- Using Voicethread, students will follow the direction by drawing in the line for
the height of every triangle.
- After students have finished the Voicethread activity, students will construct a
response to the question on the Powerpoint.
- Students will listen to the song that the teacher picked to help them memorize
the formulas.
- As a preview for next days lesson, students will write a response on how to
find the height of a triangle in order to find the area of a triangle. It is a concept
the teacher hasnt gone over in class, but will go over tomorrow.
- This assessment will allow students to apply their learning from today and
predict what may happen.
Lesson 2 (Webercise/ iPad Lesson)
Student Learning Objective: Acceptable Evidence: Lesson Activities:
- Teacher and students will open the App called Adobe Draw on their iPads.
Students will draw Students will have - Teacher will show and model where to find the shapes and lines on the App

drawing.
- Students will use protractors and rulers to measure the lengths of their
geometric figures (they are allowed to round up).
- Students will use the formulas they know to find the drawings for all the shapes
they used in their drawing.
- On a separate sheet of paper, students will collect the length, width, base, and
height measurements of their shapes then calculate the area.
- Students will staple their work together and turn it in to the teacher.
- Students will take out a piece of lined paper and journal what they thought
about this project and how it allowed them to apply their knowledge about areas
to this mini project.
- Teacher will collect at the end of class.

- Teacher models how to fill out the graphic organizer step by step.
- Teacher goes over the rubric for the graphic organizer to make sure the
students know what to fill out and how to do it, because they will get points
taken off for not following directions.
- Teacher models the example problem to show how to use the organizer and
how to solve for the problem by going through every step.
- Students will go on their computers to click on the link that is shown on the
screen to practice a problem on their own, but this time using the graphic
organizer.
- Students try to solve the practice problem and fills in every box of the graphic
organizer.
- Students will use the graphic organizer as a scaffold to solving for mixing x.
-Once students are done, they will turn in their graphic organizers and work on
more practice problems from class textbook on their own.
