Byreplayingthelogs,RecoveryManagerforExchangeprovidesaccesstotheExchangestoredatabase
extractedfrombackuporlocatedonanetworkshare,localfolder,orlocaldrive.Havingaconsistentdatabaseis
essentialforRecoveryManagerforExchangetobeabletomountthedatabase.Whenadatabasebackupis
createdduringnormaloperationofanExchangeServer(onlinebackup),thedatabasefilesmaynotbe
completelysynchronizedwiththechangesmadeinmemory.Thelogfilesareusedtoreflectsuchchanges.
Logfilesstorealistofdatachangesthatwereperformedinmemorybutnotwrittentothedatabasefilesduring
backupcreation.Replayingthelogsbringsthedatabasetoaconsistentstate,andthedatabasecanthenbe
accessedandsearchedforitemstoberestored.
WithRecoveryManagerforExchange,youhavetheoptiontoperformahardrepaironanExchangeServer
databaseinordertobringittoaconsistentstatewithoutapplyinglogfiles.Withthisoption,youcanperforma
restoreeveniftheExchangeServerdatabaseisdamagedorthedatabaselogfilesand.stmfileare
