Hello and welcome! My name is Ms. Frantz, and I will be your English language arts
teacher for the upcoming year. I am excited to have you in my class! Please review this
syllabus with your parent or guardian and return the course syllabus agreement by
Friday, August 25!

Class Rules and Expectations:


RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. In this classroom, we are students, colleagues, and
friends. We will be collaborating with one another frequently throughout the
year, and you will be expected to treat your classmates with the level of respect
that you would like to receive in return.
Be on time to class!
We will use all of our class time every day. Do not pack up early!
Always sign out before leaving the classroom. The sign-out sheet is located by the
door. Signing out is your hall pass. Trips outside the classroom during class
time will be allowed at the teachers discretion.
Do not use profanity in my class!
There is to be no cell phone use in class unless the teacher allows it. We will be
using technology in this class often. When technology use is not permitted,
students should leave their phones on their desk top for the duration of class.
All other rules are consistent with the [School Name] code of conduct.

Materials:
A 1 binder for class notes and assignments
Pencils
Pens (blue or black only)
Highlighters
College-ruled notebook paper for class notes and assignments
Any additional materials will be upon teacher request

Grade Scale*
A = 90%-100%
B = 80%-89%
C = 70%-79%
D = 60%-69%
F = 59% or below

*Our school does not use the plus/minus grading system. I will only round grades when
your final course score falls within half a percent of the next letter grade.
Make-Ups/Retesting:
I allow every student one opportunity every semester to submit a late assignment for
full points using a late pass. You will be given your two late passes during the first
week of class. DO NOT LOSE THESE! I will not replace them!

I allow every student one opportunity per semester to submit a request to retest
form for summative assessments. I will review the requirements for retesting during the
first week of class. The teacher must review and approve your request to retest before
you can retake an exam!

Late Work:
Late work is only accepted for full points in the event of an excused absence. Students
with excused absences will have the amount of days that they were absent to make up
any missing assignments. Students submitting excused late work must submit
assignments into the late work bin with an absent slip attached to the assignment.

Students with an unexcused late assignment will be required to fill out a pink slip
and turn it in to the teacher on the day the assignment is due. If the student does not
submit a pink slip on the due date of the assignment, the assignment will
receive no credit! Students will submit unexcused late work to the late work bin.
Unexcused late assignments will receive a 10 percent deduction for each day the
assignment is late.

Larger assignments can be made up for full credit, depending on the individual
circumstances. These make-ups will be at the teachers discretion only!
