CONCRETE STRUCTURE I

Note : (i) Attempt ALL questions.
(ii) Choices are given in each question set.
(iii) IS:456-2000 permitted.
(iv) Assume suitably, if any data missing.

1. Attempt any Four of the following questions: 5 x 4 = 20


(a) Why water retaining structure is design by working stress method in
comparison to Limit state design method?
(b) Why modular ratio m is calculated by the formula:

(d) Give three reasons why steel bars are used in reinforced cement
concrete.
(e) A rectangular beam section of 200 x 300mm is a singly reinforced
beam (i) Determine depth of Neutral axis (ii) Moment of resistance
(iii) Area of Steel using M25 concrete and Fe415 steel, if Effective
Cover is 25mm. (Use Working Stress Method)
(f) A reinforced concrete beam section of size 300 x 700mm effective
depth in reinforced with 3 bars of 20mm diameter in tension.
Determine the moment of resistance and maximum stresses
