LABORATORY MANUAL
No. of Experiment 03
AIM: To analyze AC and DC electric circuit and draw the bode plots using MATLAB
1.0 OBJECTIVES
2.0 PRE-LAB
Pre-lab is entered to ensure that student will be well prepared before doing the lab
activities. Students also have an idea to solve this circuit analysis method regarding
their background theory in past years.
Transform the circuit in Fig. 1 into a frequency domain circuit. Using nodal
analysis, find the node equation of V1 and determine the i2(t). Assume that there is
no initial energy stored in the circuit.
Determine the currents of I1(s) and I2(s) in the circuit of Fig. 2. Given the initial
voltage stored in the capacitance is V0 (0) = - 1Volt.
3. Determine the transfer function of the first-order highpass filter shown in Fig. 3
4. Find the I1(s) and I2(s) in the circuit Fig. 4. Assume that there is no initial energy
stored in the circuit.
5. Find the expression of VO (s)/ Vin (s) in the circuit in Fig. 5. Assume that there is
NO initial energy stored in the circuit.
3.0 THEORY
5.0 PROCEDURE:
a. In the circuit of Fig. 1, let i=e-2t.u(t) [A]. Find i1(t ) and i2(t). Assume that
there is no initial energy stored in the circuit.
i1(t ) i2(t )

b. Determine the currents of i1(t) and i2(t) in the circuit of Fig. 2. Given the
initial voltage stored in the capacitance is V0 (0) = - 1Volt.
i1(t ) i2(t )
Figure 2
1) Determine the transfer function of the first-order highpass filter shown in Fig. 3
and obtain the Bode plot.
2) Using the help of Bode function, solve for the bode plot.
3) Label the y-axis and x-axis.

6.0 EXERCISE:
1. Use MATLAB to find the i1(t) and i2(t) in the circuit Fig. 4. Assume that there is no
initial energy stored in the circuit.
i1(t ) i2(t )
Figure 4
2. Based on the circuit in Fig. 5, determine the expression of Vout (s)/ Vs (s) and draw
the bode plot from the transfer function.

3. Draw the bode plot using MATLAB for the following transfer function:
20000 s
(i) H ( s) =
( s +10 )( s +100 )
500
(ii) H ( s ) =
s + 120 s + 2000
