The river Varahi takes its birth at a height of 730 m in the Western Ghats at Hebbagilu, near Agumbe in
Shimoga District. It joins the Arabian Sea near Kundapur. After a 25 Km initial run, this swift and powerful
river falls 455 m in cascades to form the bellowing Kunchikal falls. Varahi is Karnataka's rst underground
powerhouse a key milestone in the corporation history of KPCL. Initially conceived as a surface power
house at the blueprint stage, Varahi was later converted into an underground Powerhouse. The decision for
the change-over was based on three key parameters : technical, economical and our concern for
environment protection. Stage I of the Varahi Hydro Electric Project has a total installed capacity of 230
MW and Stage II of the Varahi Hydro Electric Project has a total installed capacity of 230 MW
contributing 1100 MU annually. This consists of 4 x 115 MW Generating Units at Varahi underground
Powerhouse and two 4.5 MW units in the power house at the Mani Dam site.

I am indeed very pleased to be here today and consider it an absolute honor to be speaking to you on the
college annual day CONVERGE 2017. I'm grateful to the management, Principal and members of the
faculty for having invited me to this August function.
As a Registrar of VTU, a state technical university, it has been observed that KVG College of Engineering,
Sullia, DK, with a span of 30 years, has been recognized as one of the best performing institutions under the
leadership of former principals and current Principal Dr. N. A. Jnanesh and dedicated members of the
faculty who have set high academic standards, collaborative research work and created a corridor between
industry and institution. VTU ensures continuous support to KVGCE for further growth.
VTU is in the forefront to transform itself from a teaching centric university into research and knowledge
centric university.
The major driver behind our transformation has been our strategy to listen, observe, monitor and then act.
Thus, at VTU, we have been able to implement a thoroughly unique curriculum, one that aligns directly
with the needs of society and industry. There is a drastic increase in the enrolment of students in UG and PG
from 25,000 during 1998-99 to above 1 lakh during 2016-17.

Dear students,
As the name CONVERGE signies the union of students' talents in various elds like technology,
academics and other co-curricular activities in which mind and soul converge we can call this event as
students' day, where each and every student effort and dedication will make this event a grand success. I
like to share Swami Vivekananda's words; All power is within you, you can do anything and
everything
Life is like a large piece of marble and you are the sculptor. The mind, will and skill of a sculptor decides the
shape of this marble. Likewise, your mind, will and skill will help to shape your life. Do not allow
circumstances to restrict your dreams! We must all strive to improve and excel. With the advantage of
having your education at this college, coupled with hard work, positive attitude and knowledge, your
dreams will take you as far as you can imagine. Do look for the opportunities that hide behind adversities,
as there is always another way of looking at the world.
On this occasion, I would like to remind you of the inspiring quote by former President of India Dr. APJ
Abdul Kalam.
My message, especially to the young people is to have courage to think differently, courage to
invent, to travel the unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the
problems and succeed. These are great qualities that they must work towards.

Teachers,
We must be aware that teachers also have a great role to play in contributing to uplift the young students
through concern and dedication. In my opinion, ultimately, education in its real sense is the pursuit of truth.
We cannot teach our students in the same manner in which we were taught. Change is necessary to impart
knowledge to students. So, he/she has to continuously rell and update his knowledge so that his wards will
always look up to him/her as a walking encyclopedia and as a fountain of love. Everyday teacher has to look
for newer opportunities to teach latest technological developments in class rooms.
I would like to share one more message given by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for teachers;
Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If
the people remember me as a good teacher that will be the biggest honor for me.
Dear Parents,
Today, I personally believe that parents also have a vital role in students' career. By working together,
teachers and parents can create and maintain a high quality educational program for students. I request all
parents to monitor their wards regarding attendance and academic performance.
Dear Students,
Not only academic performance is important, you have to be a good citizen. I personally request all of you to
make our country corruption free, here I like to quote once again the message of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam;
If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel that there
are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, mother and the
teacher
