Development Activity F
Development Activity F
Background: One of the most important aspects of the HTM department is its
emphasis on student involvement. Though all HTM student associations remain
successful in providing students in the program with unique and fun ways to get
involved, there could and should be a stronger bond across all the associations. My
vision is to create an event that will allow all HTM student associations to come together
in order to collaborate, innovate, and celebrate their involvement as organizations in the
program. This project will allow me to build upon my planning competency and improve
my networking competency. As an active member of MESAs executive board, this
project will allow me to utilize my resources in the organization to not only make this
event successful, but to also enhance my experience in the events industry.
Description: This project will be developed through 5 major phases. The first phase
will be the initiation phase, where I will identify the vital information in order to prepare
an event proposal. The second phase will give me the opportunity to learn more about
the event planning deliverables, such as budgets and production scheduling, through
designing the scope of the event. The third implementation phase will then allow me to
strategize further through developing all the information and materials needed for the
day of the event as it approaches. The fourth phases will actually be the event
production phase in that the event will take place with attendance from the student
associations; this will be where my planning and networking competencies meet for
improvement. Finally, the last phase will be an evaluation of the event to determine if I
had met the needs of its stakeholders and improvements that could be considered for
future event planning.
Success Indicators: This activity will be determined as successful if it accomplishes two things
enhancement of my competencies and producing an efficient event. A successful activity will have
created an environment for the student associations to get to know each others members more
personally, collaborate on ideas to help other orgs succeed, and reflect on their inspiration on why
they give back to this program. The main objective here is to network, not only for the associations at
the event, but for myself to network with those involved in preparing the event as well. In addition,
through networking across the necessary parties to make this event a reality, success will always be
indicated through the added experience of planning an event for the program. This will have given
me the opportunity to step into an event planners shoes and allow me to reflect on if this is truly a
career path I should follow.
