Exp. 1 - An Introduction To Magnetic Circuits

This document describes an electrical engineering laboratory experiment on measuring power in three-phase circuits. The objectives are to determine power consumed using 2-wattmeter and 3-wattmeter methods for star and delta connections under balanced and unbalanced loads. Students will also construct phasor diagrams for unbalanced loads and understand how active, reactive power and power factor are measured using wattmeters. The lab has equipment for balanced and unbalanced three-phase loads at rated line and phase voltages, as well as a three-phase autotransformer. Students will construct circuits and conduct experiments to collect data, draw phasor diagrams, and compute active and reactive powers.

EXPERIMENT 2: POWER MEASUREMENT IN THREE PHASE CIRCUITS

Objective:
(i) To determine the three phase power consumed using 2-wattmeters/3 wattmeters
methods for different types of connections (star or delta) and loadings (balanced
and unbalanced).
(ii) Utilizing the measured voltage magnitudes and power, construct the phasor diagram
for unbalanced loads.
(iii) Understand how the active, reactive powers and power factor measured using
wattmeter measurements.
Pre-requisite:
(i) How to measure single phase power using wattmeter
(ii) Relationship among the magnitude of phasors in star and delta connections, three
phase power measurement using 3-wattmeters and 2-wattmeters
Lab Facility available
Three phase load bank-Balanced/unbalanced, Active/Reactive ( at rated line and phase
voltages) and three phase auto transformer.
