Common Smart Submunition

The Common Smart Submunition (CSS) technology objective was completed in March 2009, achieving a Technology Readiness Level of 5. The CSS is a 128mm submunition designed to provide increased capability through a variety of platforms like missiles, projectiles, and UAS. It uses sensors and a combined effects warhead to detect and engage armored targets from up to 100m away while weighing less than 10lbs and costing under $10k per unit. Testing demonstrated the ability to defeat T-90 armor. Further work continues on applications for the Scorpion system, 155mm projectiles, NLOS-T, and UAS.
