Radio Frequency Identification and Fingerprint Based Student Attendance System

This document summarizes a student attendance system that uses both RFID and fingerprint biometrics for authentication. The system aims to improve security over traditional paper-based systems and prevent proxy attendance. It consists of an RFID reader, fingerprint sensor, and computer system running Visual Basic software. The software manages student attendance records and timestamps. When a student's RFID tag and fingerprint match in the system, their attendance will be registered for the day. The system provides automated, accurate attendance tracking while increasing security over previous methods.

Abstract- This paper gives the implementation techniques of RFID, integrated with biometric sensor to improve the security
system. In this system we use both techniques for registering proper attendance of student. No one can do the proxy .In this
system we are replacing old paper base attendance system. Movements and increase their safety. In this we required
computer system. This computer system has dedicated “Visual Basic” based software to deal with different fingerprint and
RFID tags. Attendance will be stored daily according to time and date. when the data of RFID reader and Finger print
reader is matched then and then only the attendance will be registered

Keywords- RFID Reader, RFID tags, Fingerprint reader, visual basic software,RS232IC

I. INTRODUCTION a .RFID reader and tag

Basically of this system has three part one is RFID

A. System Overview
The overall system design is shown in following

RFID reader is used to collect the data from tag and

send it to PC though serial port. Fingerprint reader is
also used to collect the from thum impression,
convert it into ASCII code and it to PC through serial
port communication for further process. In this
project we are using microcontroller(89c51)which is
more suitable for programming and connected to
LCD for displaying ‘Student attendance registered’.
Micro-controller is also connected to motor though
ULN. This ULN is consist of transistor pairs and is
used as switch for moter. motor shows Door on /off

An online user interface has been developed to ease

the management system to monitor the student
movement and to search the student data easily. The
technologies used to develop monitoring systems. We
found that by adding the second layer of
authentication to the system enhanced the security
level. Finally, based on the application scenario
proposed we develop a monitoring system and
discussed the flow of the overall system. The
application of this system will improve school
management procedure, monitor the interest group
movements automatically and increase assets security
