1) Many 7th grade students at SMP 1 Raha had difficulties writing descriptive texts due to limited vocabularies and grammar knowledge. 2) The researcher tried using mind mapping to address this issue. Mind mapping uses pictures that students can create, color and decorate to develop ideas and writing. 3) Test results showed students were more engaged in lessons using mind mapping for writing descriptive texts. They successfully completed group and individual tasks in a timely manner. Post-testing found 92% of students met minimum standards, up from pre-testing.

ABSTRACT

In SMP 1 Raha, there are many seventh grade students find difficulties in
writing descriptive text. This case is caused by the less vocabularies and minimum
garmmar which understood by the students. Most students do not like English
because it is difficult and doesn,t interesting at all. Because of that, the researcher
tries to use mind mapping menthod to solve the problems. This menthod is quiet
interesting, because it uses pictures which can be created by the students. And the
students can also color and decorate as he wants to do and also can show ideas in
writing.
The result of the research shows that the students look anxious to attend the
lesson when mind mapping menthod is used in learning writing descriptive text.
When they did the task, which in group at first, all the groups could complete the
task and submit their tasks in time. When the students do the test individually, they
can also finish the task in time. And the result was 92% students from 30 testers,
there are 27 students can reach the minimum criterion mark. Therefore in the
pretest result, there are 29 students could reach the minimum criterion mark.
