Egg Drop Analysis

This document outlines an egg drop experiment to design a carrier that prevents a raw egg from breaking when dropped from increasing heights. Students are instructed to sketch their carrier design and list materials. They will then construct the carrier, keeping within rules of no direct egg contact, shoebox size limit, and ability to access the egg without damage. After each drop zone, students complete an analysis sheet to record if the egg survived and note any design changes needed to progress to the next height. The goal is for the carrier to withstand drops from bleachers, stairwells, and windows without breaking the egg.

Egg Drop Analysis & Results

Name:__________________________________ Date:_________

Record the following results & observations: Weight of Carrier:__________________

DROP ZONE:________________________________ DROP TIME:___________________

1. Did the carrier survive the fall from the bleachers?_____________________

a. If so, what was successful in the design of your carrier? Prepare to move on to the next drop
zone.

b. If not, what can you change about it so that it will survive this fall and make the changes.

The goal of this project is to design a carrier that will prevent a raw egg from breaking when dropped
from various heights. Please keep in mind that your egg carrier must be able to withstand numerous
drops: Top of Bleachers in Gym; Top of Stairwell & Window

The Following Rules Apply:

1. You can’t put anything on your egg, such as tape, glue, paint, etc.
2. Your carrier must fit inside a standard shoe box.
3. You must be able to gain access to your egg without damaging your carrier.
4. In order to move continue on, your egg must survive each drop.

Procedures:

1. Think about your design: Sketch it below and list the materials you’ll need (either materials
you brought in or from the items provided by teacher)

Materials Needed/Used
2. Design your carrier, keeping in mind the rules stated above.

3. After each drop zone, you will complete an analysis & results data sheet.

GOOD LUCK! HOPE YOU HAVE AN EGGCELLENT EXPERIENCE!
