Logarithmic Differentiation

Logarithmic differentiation allows you to differentiate functions where it is easier to take the natural logarithm of both sides first. You take the logarithm of both sides, apply differentiation rules to the logarithm, and then multiply both sides by the original function to isolate the derivative term. For example, to find the derivative of y = (x^2 + 1)/(x^2 - 1), you take the logarithm of both sides, differentiate using logarithm rules, and then multiply both sides by y to get the derivative expression dy/dx = y*(2x/(x^2 + 1) - 2x/(x^2 - 1)).

Logarithmic differentiation

To differentiate y = f (x ), it is often easier to use logarithmic

differentiation :
1. Take the natural logarithm of both sides to get ln y = ln(f (x )).
2. Differentiate with respect to x to get 1 dy = ln(f (x )).

3. We get =y ln(f (x )) = f (x ) ln(f (x )).
