Pedestrian Bridges

1) The document describes the design of temporary pedestrian bridges over trenches at Princess Noura Bint Abdulrahman University for Women in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 2) The bridges will use steel beams supported by wood boards to transfer loads to secondary steel members running perpendicularly between the main beams. 3) Load and stress calculations are presented to check the capacity of the secondary and main steel members, as well as their connection details.

This SCR is raised id order to get official approval for design of temporary pedestrian bridges
which will be loacted over the trenches.
The system is adoptes as two single supported beams connected with secondary members
perpendiculary.
The load will transfered thru wood boards to secondary members, over the main members to
supports.
The loads consider for this tructure are:
1. Dead load including self weight, the wood boards weight and the weights from fence.
2 Live load of 5kN/m2 which is required as per CD-8.00.BR.00.001

1. INPUT DATA
Clear span over the trench…………………………………………………L= 4 m
Material for the steel members as per ASTM A36……………………Py= 245 N/mm2
Adopted bolts are grade 4.6 with following mechanical properties:
>Shear capacity……………………………………………………..…….ps= 160 N/mm2
>Bearing capacity…………………..……………………………………pbb= 460 N/mm2
>The strength of weld (electrode classification number) is 60% of Py…= 147 N/mm2
>Bearing capacity of connected parts……………………………….pbbcp= 460 N/mm2

2. THE CONCEPT
