INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE: The Lesson Plan/Strategy
Duration
S.M.A.R.T. Objectives:
D 1. Distinguish between arithmetic and geometric sequences.
E 2. Recognize harmonic and Fibonacci sequences.
L 3. Describe a geometric sequence, and find its nth term.
I 4. Determine the geometric means between two terms.
V 5. Find the sum, of the terms of a geometric sequence,
E 6. Solve real life problems involving geometric sequences.
R Procedure (4 A’s)
Y Priming/Activating Prior Knowledge
I. Divide and Conquer
Find the ratio of the second number to the first number.
1. 2, 8
2. -3, 9
3. 1, ½
4. -5, -10
5. 12, 4
6. -49, 7
7. ¼ , ½

10. 3m, 3mr
II. Fold me Up
1. Start with a big square on a piece of paper. Assume the area of the
square is 64 sq, units.
2. Fold the four corners to the center of the square and find the area of
the resulting square.
3. Repeat the process three times and record the results in the table

B. Insert 3 terms between 2 and 32 of a geometric sequence.
Want Sum?
Consider the geometric sequence 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 96, …
What is the sum of the first 5 terms?
Geometric means are terms between any given two terms of a geometric
sequence.
Fibonacci sequence is a sequence where its first two terms are either both
1, or 0 and 1, and each terms thereafter is obtained by adding the two
preceding terms.
Application (Collaborative Learning through paired and group
activities)
How Well Do You Know Me?
Determine whether each sequence is arithmetic, geometric or neither.
1. 6, 18, 54, 162, …
2. 4, 10, 16, 22, …
3. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, …
4. 625, 125, 25, 5, …
5. ½, ¼, 1/6, 1/8, …
6. 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, …
