Reading: Now that we have been thinking about our thinking (metacognition) we are going
to discuss schema (past experiences unique to them) and making connections to texts.

Turn over for more information →

Phonics: Y as a chameleon. We will mainly focus on how Y will say long vowel E at the end of
one syllable words, but we will also explore the other sounds Y says.

Writing: Taking story ideas and trying to find and focus on one small moment from within a
larger story or event.

Grammar: Imperative sentences, which are sentences that are a request or a demand.
(Now you know what type of sentence you use when you tell them to clean their room.)

Math: Beginning to start Unit 5: Exploring Teen Solution Methods.

Social Studies/Science: Still plugging away at economics.

Other news:

● Star of the Day: The star of the day will bring in a favorite bedtime book. The book
that always needs to be read before they can go to bed...you know the one ;)
● NGFA Carnival: First grade is collecting for the following theme baskets:
Lego- ( Lego sets, Lego books, Lego stickers)
Baking with kids (Cookie, brownie, cake mixes, cookie cutters, baking supplies)
**Donations are accepted until Wednesday, February 7**
● Anchored in Excellence: You may have noticed that some of your kiddos have come
home with an anchor stamp on their hand. This is a way for you to celebrate and
recognize your student at home for outstanding behavior! Keep your eyes open for
when your child comes home with the anchor stamp and pour on the praise! Thank
you for supporting positive behavior at school!
● Summer Party: Still looking for a couple of volunteers and some sacks to use for sack
races! Sign up using the link found in the email!
