The Legend of Timun Mas
a. There was a couple who wanted to have a child so they prayed everyday to make it come true b. The giant granted their wish by giving them a bunch of cucumber seeds but they had to give the girl to the giant on her 17th birthday c. The couple planted the seeds and when it had riped, the man cut it and there was a beautiful girl inside the cucumber d. When Timun Mas reached 17 years old, the couple had to keep their promise e. Timun Mas’ father gave her something f. The giant came and Timun Mas ran away g. She threw a handful of salt and it became a sea. The giant was able to swim h. She threw some chilli and it became a jungle of trees that had sharp thorns. The giant was able to pass through them i. She threw some cucumber seeds and it became a field of cucumbers and the giant could still escape it j. She threw a shrimp paste and it became a big swamp. The giant then drowned and died k. Timun Mas went back home immediately and they were happy to get back together
2. The Legend of Banyuwangi
a. There was a kingdom ruled by king Sulahkromo b. The king had a prime minister named Raden Sidopekso c. The prime minister had a beautiful wife named Sri Tanjung d. The king wanted her to be his wife e. The king sent his prime minister to a long mission f. While Sidopekso was away, the king tried to get Sri Tanjung but he failed g. When Sidopekso was back, the king told him that his wife was unfaithful h. Sidopekso wanted to kill her by taking her to the river bank i. Sri Tanjung told him that it was not true and it would be proven after Sidopekso killed her j. The river immediately became clean and began to spread a wonderful fragnance
3. The Legend of Lutung Kasarung
a. There was an old king named Prabu Tapa Agung who wanted to retire b. He had two daughters, Purbararang and Purbasari c. He chose Purbasari to be the leader of the kingdom d. Purbararang was very angry and set a bad plan with her fiance named Indrajaya e. Later, there were black dots all over Purbasari’s body f. Purbasari had to move out of the palace and stayed in the jungle g. Everyday she played with the animals and a monkey named Lutung Kasarung always cheered her up h. Lutung Kasarung made a small lake and asked Purbasari to take a bath there i. Purbasari’s bad skin was cured j. Purbasari went to the palace with Lutung Kasarung k. Purbararang said that Purbasari could be the queen if her fiance was more handsome than Indrajaya l. Lutung Kasarung changed into a handsome man and Purbasari became the queen
4. The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu
a. In West Java, there lived a woman named Dayang Sumbi who had a son named Sangkuriang b. One day, Sangkuriang went hunting and killed Tumang, his father in the form of a dog c. Knowing that, Dayang Sumbi hit Sangkuriang’s head with a big spoon and asked him to get out of the house d. Many years later, Sangkuriang wandered around and met an old beautiful woman, Dayang Sumbi e. He wanted her to be his wife f. Dayang Sumbi agreed under one condition g. Sangkuriang had to build a vast boat in just one night h. Sangkuriang called his friends and fairies to help him i. Dayang Sumbi made fake lights in the east to make the cocks crowed j. Sangkuriang was very angry so he kicked the boat k. The boat turned out to be Mount Tangkuban Perahu
5. The Legend of the Lake of Colors
a. There was a kingdom in West Java which ruled by Prabu b. He and his wife hadn’t got any children c. Prabu went to the jungle everyday to pray to God to give them a child d. A few months later, the queen was pregnant e. They loved their daughter so much and made her as a spoiled daughter f. One day, the princess celebrated her 17th birthday and many people came to the palace g. The king took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel h. He gave it to his daughter but she didn’t want to receive it because she thought it was ugly i. She threw the necklace and it was broken j. The queen started crying and so did everybody k. The floor of the palace erupted and water poured out from the crack l. The palace got flooded and became a lake m. The lake reflected multiple colors to its surroundings
6. The Legend of Mount Bromo
a. Roro Anteng and Joko Seger lived on the foot of Mount Bromo b. They ruled the area and named it Tengger c. After several years, they hadn’t had a child d. They climbed the top of mountain and prayed there everyday to God to give them a child e. The prayer was heard that they would get 25 children f. They had to promise they would sacrifice their youngest child in return g. Roro Anteng gave birth to the 25th child and it was time to sacrifice the youngest child h. Roro Anteng and Joko Seger couldn’t do it and they tried to hide their child i. An eruption happened and Kusuma fell into the crater j. Kusuma’s brothers and sisters held the offering ceremony every year by bringing fruits, vegetables, rice, and meat to be off to the Gods

a. There lived a rich family in Bali b. The father named Sidi Mantra which was famous because of his supernatural power c. He had a son named Manik Angkeran who liked to gamble d. Because of his bad habit, his parents became poor e. Sidi Mantra went to Agung Mountain to meet a mighty dragon f. He rang the bell and said the right prayer g. Suddenly, jewelries came out of the dragon’s body h. Sidi Mantra gave them all to his son and advised him to stop gambling i. Manik Angkeran broke his promise by coming to the mountain all himself and he stole his father’s bell j. He wanted to kill the dragon and stole all its jewelries k. But the dragon knew that so he killed Manik Angkeran first l. Sidi Mantra was very sad and he asked the dragon to bring his son back to life m. The dragon agreed but they had to live in different places n. Sidi Mantra used a stick to make a big line on the ground o. From the line, water flowed and it became a strait
8. The Legend of the Crying Stone
a. There lived a beautiful girl with her mother b. Everyday she put make up on and wore her best clothes c. She didn’t like to help her mother to work in the field d. One day, the mother asked her to go to the market to buy some food together e. She agreed but her mother had to walk behind her f. On the way to the market, everybody admired her beauty g. People kept asking about who the old woman was h. She kept answering that the old woman was her servant i. Her mother couldn’t hold the pain and prayed to God to punish her daughter j. The girl turned into a stone slowly k. The girl cried and begged for forgiveness but it was too late
