Class Discussion
Class discussion is an important part of our
classroom. You are expected to be prepared and Appropriate discussion responses
participate in all discussions. Your participation “I agree because…”
will be monitored and included in your final “I disagree because…”
grade. Complete all work leading up to a “Have you considered…”
discussion so you are prepared. Remember, all “I understand your perspective but I found…”
views and perspectives are welcomed during “You have a valid point, however, I think…because…”
discussion. Therefore, our classroom has no “I don’t understand what you mean by…”
tolerance for inappropriate behavior. “In other words, you think…”
“Do I understand you correctly in that….”
‣ Raise your had to speak “I would like to add to that idea….”
‣ Wait for your turn to talk (take notes if you
are afraid of forgetting what you want to say) “T.H.I.N.K” before you speak
‣ Listen to classmates. Don’t just hear them
talking. Listen to what they are saying and T - Is it true?
respond to specific points
‣ Respectfully disagree by validating and H - It is helpful?
respecting classmates perspectives
‣ Use textual evidence to support your ideas.
Show the evidence instead of just telling
I - Is it inspiring?
about it
‣ All views and ideas are accepted in our N - Is it necessary?
classroom. Never tease, mock, or insult
another classmate
K - Is it kind?

CONSEQUENCES
Our classroom has no tolerance for inappropriate behavior. In addition to our school rules,
consequences of mistreating your classmates and/or myself, being disruptive, and/or disrespectful will
result in:

1. First offense - Warning

2. Second offense - Removed from the classroom and reported to the main office. A note will be sent
home and the student and teacher must meet to discuss the behavior issue.

If you have any concerns about your behavior or learning environment, please speak with me
immediately. Also, please speak with me about any students who are being disrespectful and
inappropriate outside or inside the classroom.
