Final Exam Hydraulic Structures

This document provides instructions for a final exam question on hydraulic structures. Students are asked to calculate acting forces on a gravity dam shown in a figure, including self-weight, water pressure, and uplift pressure. They must then verify if the dam is safe against overturning and sliding, given total vertical and moment loads, an overturning moment, sliding force, and friction coefficient. The question requires calculating loads and verifying stability of the dam based on given values.

1. Calculate all acting forces to this gravity dam shown in the figure (1) and get the total
vertical loads and total sliding loads ,
a) Calculate the self-weight (1,2,3)
b) Calculate the water pressure (Upstream)
c) Calculate the uplift pressure (only 60%)

There is a sediment at height of 6m in the reservoir.

2. If the total vertical loads (∑V=5919Kn) and the total moment resistant (∑M+ve =52414
KN.m), and the overturning moment (∑M-ve = 27565kNm), and the total sliding force is
39000 KN.m, μ=0.45. Then verify if the dam is safe for overturning problem and sliding
problem.
