Linear Circuit Analysis Lab Page 1

This document summarizes an experiment on verifying the superposition theorem in linear circuits. The objective was to find the voltage across a load resistance RL by separately applying two voltage sources V1 and V2 and summing their individual effects. The procedure involved measuring the voltage VL across RL with both sources on, then individually with one source off. The results closely matched theoretical calculations, verifying superposition.

The objective of superposition theorem is to find the affect of voltage & current sources
across load resistance by short circuiting the voltage source and opening the current
source. This experiment will allow the experimental verification of the theoretical
analysis.

PROCEDURE:

We connected three resistors R1, R2 & RL and two voltage sources. By switching on
both the sources we note down the value of V L across RL. Then switched off voltage
source V1 and note the value VL1 across RL then switched off voltage source V2 and
note the value VL2. Such that VL = VL1 + VL2.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

OBSERVATIONS AND CALCULATIONS:

V1 V2 R1 R2 R3 VR12 VR13 VR1=VR12+

(Volt) (Volt) (Ohm) (Ohm) (Ohm) (Volt) (Volt) VR13 (Volt)
Theoretical 7v 5v 5.6k 6.8k 0.27k 0.272 4.59 4.86
Practical 7.1v 5v 5.6k 6.8k 0.27k 0.25 4.6 4.85
Error -1.4% 0 0 0 0 8.1% 0.21% 0.21%

CONCLUSION:
In this experiment we verified the superposition theorem and concluded that the circuit
becomes simplified and we can easily make calculations by determine the individual
source effect.
