Problem 2-2 Relative Permeability

The document provides relative permeability data from two rock samples with different porosities and asks to determine relative permeability characteristics for a rock with a porosity of 17.5% based on averaging the existing data. The data includes the water-oil relative permeability curves and properties for the two samples, with porosities of 12.3% and 22.7% from one sample and porosity of 22.7% for the other. The user is instructed to normalize the saturation axis and consider permeability, porosity, or a combination to average the data and determine a representative relative permeability curve for the 17.5% porosity rock.

Problem 2

ROCK PROPERTIES

AVERAGING ROCK RELATIVE PERMEABILITY

Two samples having porosity values of 12.3% and 22.7% have been tested to determine their water-oil relative permeability
characteristics. These are provided on the attached Data sheet. A large portion of the reservoir has porosities closer to 17.5%
and 55 md permeability.

Find a set of relative permeability characteristics that would apply to the rock characterized by the 17.5% porosity.

Hint: You want to consider permeability, porosity or some combination thereof as an indicator of rock quality for normalizing
the available data relating to the connate water saturation and the residual oil saturation.

Also you may want to normalize the saturation axis between the endpoints to compare the shape of the relative
permeability curves for the two samples.
