Here's what we're learning this week:

Turn over for more information →

Reading: We will continue inferring, while also introducing questioning. We will discuss
how good readers question 24/7!

Phonics: Focusing on long vowel teams this week and next. long a- ai and ay; long e- ee
and ea, and finally long o- oa and oe.

Writing: Students will work on writing more small moment stories. I will also introduce
transition words and how to share a ‘lesson learned’ as an ending.

Grammar: Using commas and capitalization when writing dates.

Math: This week we will add and subtract by multiples of 10’s. For instance, 23+30=?

Social Studies/Science: Starting geography :)

Other news:

● March “Reading” Madness: As we did before Spring Break last year, we will be
putting on a reading marathon. Students will be tasked to build their reading
stamina all the way up to 25 minutes! Reading stamina is: reading independently, in
one spot, and silently/whisper reading. Help our class reach this goal by providing
your student this stamina time at home.
● Star of the Day: The star of the day will bring in a favorite bedtime book. The book
that always needs to be read before they can go to bed...you know the one ;) Starting
on WEDNESDAY with David, students do not need to bring anything in, but they get
the class “love book” for the day instead :)

Dates of Importance:

● Feb. 23- Reading Marathon Kickoff Assembly.

● Feb. 26- Due date to return spring conference form. ALL forms must be returned.
● Mar. 5- Half day, parent teacher conferences
