Step by Step Instructions:

1. Cut a length of thread 2 yards long. Stretch your thread some to reduce the curl as well as the amount of
loosening your beads will do after they are stitched into place. Wax your thread lightly. You will not need to
double your thread for this project.
Figure 1
2. Now that your thread is prepared, you will surround the Swarovski rivoli with
a bezel of peyote stitch. To do this, pick up 36 cylinder beads. NOTE: this must
be even number of beads that will fit comfortably, yet snugly around the largest
portion of the rivoli. Figure 1

Figure 2 3. Push the cylinder beads down your thread leaving a 10 Figure 3
inch tail. Pass your needle through the first several beads
and pull your thread sung to form a loop of beads as
shown in Figure 2.

4. This loop of beads you just formed will actually become

your first and second peyote rounds. Begin the 3rd peyote
round by picking up one bead, skipping the adjacent bead
on your initial loop, and passing through the next bead of
Figure 4 the loop, pulling your thread snug. Figure 3
Figure 5
5. Likewise, pick up one more bead, skip one bead from the
initial loop, and pass through the next bead. Figure 4
6. Continue in a similar manner, repeating Step 5 until
you’ve worked every other bead of your initial loop. The
addition of your last bead will look like Figure 5 . This is
regular tubular peyote stitch.

Note: Try to keep your tension consistent when working this round. Pull your thread relatively snug so
your beads aren’t sloppy. Also, try your best not to pierce the thread of your first round as you work the
second round. This will make the next round much easier. Pass through 1st bead of the row you just finished.
7. After adding the last bead of your third round, you will need
to pass through the first bead you added in this round to ‘step
up’. The ‘step up’ puts your thread in position to begin the next
round. Figure 6

8. After completing Step 7 and executing the ‘step up, work a 4th and 5th round
of peyote using the smaller size 15o beads, pulling your tension snug to cinch up
your peyote bezel. Remember to do your ’step-up’ after each round. Figure 7
9. With 2 rows of size 15° peyote completed, your bezel should be curving in
nicely. This will be the top of your bezel. Without adding any additional beads,
pass your needle through beads until your thread is coming out of one of the ’high’
cylinder beads from your first round. It doesn’t matter which bead it is. Just pick
one. Figure 8 Figure 8

10. Slip your Swarovski rivoli into your bezel with the pretty side showing through the size
15° beads on the top of the bezel. Work 2 rows of peyote with size 15o beads on the bottom
of your peyote bezel to cinch the rivoli in and capture it. Don’t forget to do your ‘step-up’ at
the end of each round. You will need to work methodically, and keep your thread tight. The
Figure 9 rivoli will want to escape until you’re into the second round of size 15o beads. Figure 9
11. After completing Step 10 your bezel will look something like Figure 10.

12. To cover the underside of the rivoli you will work several more
rounds of peyote with decreases. For the first decrease round, work
‘two peyote stitches then decrease a stitch’, a total of 6 times. To decrease
a stitch, simply pass through the next ‘high’ bead without having a bead on your thread. Figure 10
You will have a total of 12 ‘high’ beads remaining after completing this round. Do not
forget the ‘step-up’. The inside edge of your work will take on the look of a six pointed
star. Figure 11
Figure 11
13. Work the next round even without any decrease stitches. To do this, peyote 12
stitches. Remember to keep your tension tight and execute the ‘step-up’. After this round
the inside edge looks more rounded. Figure 12.
14. You will decrease again on this round. To do this, work ‘three peyote
stitches then decrease a stitch’ a total of 3 times. You will have a total of 9
‘high’ beads remaining after completing this round. Do not forget the ‘step-
up’. After this round the inside edge looks more triangular. Figure 13

16. You will decrease again on this round. To do this, work ‘one peyote stitch
then decrease a stitch’ a total of 4 times AND then work one more peyote
stitch and ’step-up’. You will have a total of 5 ‘high’ beads remaining after
completing this round. Figure 14
17. You will work the final round even, with no decreases. To do this, peyote 5
