Nouns- naming people, place and things

Nouns are the words that identify object, ppl, places, animal or qualities. We use nouns to
name things around us, people around us, feelings and food.

There are two types of nouns : proper and common


-Common nouns refer to things in general ( a planet, a country)
-Proper nouns refer to concentrate and unique ones ( mars, japan)
Everything engendered : the gender of spanish nouns

El esteraunte Restaurant

All nouns in spanish re either masculine or feminine. You can usually identify the gender of
nouns in 1 of 2 ways : by its ending letter(s) or by its meaning
Usually ( not always ) if a word ends in -a, its feminine. If its end in -o, its masculine
In spanish there are two form of the, one for each gender. You’ll be using el for masculine
nouns and la for feminine nouns
Masculine (el) : -r, -n (except -ion), -l, -ema, -aje, -o
Feminine(la) : -a, -z, -cion, -sion, -umbre, -ad

Professions/ family members

When naming people in the terms of their profession or as member of family, usually the
masculine form of the noun is given or listed ( in the dict) . ex :
El profesor Teacher
La profesora Teacher

Ending in -e

Nouns ending in -e can be either masculine of feminine. You really just have to memorize
their gender as you come across such nouns. Ex : la calle and el estaurante
Exceptions :
La radio
La foto
El lapiz
El pez
El poema
