This document is a service bulletin from Canon addressing potential arcing issues in the NP6521 copier model. It details how condensation can sometimes cause arcing from the transfer roller bushing to the main drive assembly. To prevent this, technicians should install an arc prevention cover in the main unit by pressing it over the transfer roller mount and securing its tab. This cover will prevent arcing in environments where condensation frequently occurs, like areas with gas stoves or heaters that produce steam.

(FF-T01-H5-000005-01)
DATE: 25.08.00

Location : MAIN UNIT LOWER PLATE ASSEMBLY (2)

Subject : TRANSFER ROLLER BUSHING (REAR) ARC PREVENTION

Reason : To communicate measures to prevent arcing from the transfer roller bushing (rear).

Details : If used in conditions where condensation occurs, there are cases where arcs can form from the
transfer roller bushing (rear) to the main drive assembly sheet metal, and in worst cases can cause
serious damage. This document will communicate service measures to prevent this from happening.

Service : An “Arc prevention cover” will be designated as a special service part. Attach this “Arc prevention
cover” in the main unit following the steps below.

<Reference>
• Symptoms where condensation has occurred
Totally black or totally white images.
• In environments where condensation occurs easily
When the main unit is cool (first thing in the morning in the winter) and peripherals have warmed
up, condensation occurs easily. If a kerosene or gas stove, or a heater in which steam occurs easily, is
being used at this time, the likelihood of condensation becomes higher.
