Traffic condition in Pampanga

ERICA B. YUTUC

BS CRIMINOLOGY 3Y1-1

INTRODUCTION

The researcher will be doing a study on the traffic issues in Pampanga, from
the traffic jams during rush hours to the fights that happen because of reckless
driving and road construction. Their motivation for this research is their daily
experiences of heavy traffic in Pampanga, not being on time due to traffic
and their hope of change in this.

The purpose of this research is to find a way to improve the traffic conditions in
Pampanga. The objectives would be to find the causes of traffic and to be able
to find possible solutions to lessen the traffic. It will also look for ways to
improve the implemented road construction projects. Here are some of the
projects that are currently applied to help the problem on traffic: Color Coding,
making the Yellow Lane ruling and construction of overpasses and highways.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Definitions of traffic congestion could differ with different organizations and

purposes. defines traffic congestion as “the level at which transportation
system performance is no longer acceptable due to traffic interference.” They
also state that “the level of system performance may vary by type of
transportation facility, geographic location (metropolitan area or sub-area,
rural area), and/or time of day.” defines congestion as “travel time or delay in
excess of that normally incurred under light or free-flow travel conditions.”
when the traffic speed is below 45 mph in peak hours, freeway congestion
could be defined. also defines freeway congestion using level of service.

By user expectation, “unacceptable congestion” was defined using travel time

in excess of an agreed-upon norm, which might vary by type of transportation
facility, travel mode, geographic location, and time of day. realized that “A key
aspect of a congestion management strategy is identifying the level of
‘acceptable’ congestion and developing plans and programs to achieve that
target.” used the U.S. Census data to conduct the commuting patterns, and
defined the unacceptable congestion as “if less than half of the population
can commute to work in less than 20 min or if more than 10 % of the
population can commute to work in more than 60 min.” developed a “user
satisfaction” transportation system performance measure based on
acceptable travel time and delay. The measure incorporated a set of curves
that show the percentage of users satisfied for a given trip length and time.
Some more studies about traffic congestion indicators are listed in Table In
those studies, we can find that most of traffic congestion indicators are
focused on transportation capacity, travel time, delay, travel speed, et al.,
which could be classified as transportation system performance indicators. A
few indicators are based on user expectation and satisfaction, which concern
users’ acceptable travel time or delay.

METHODS

Questions

What kind of traffic had in Pampanga?

A. Light

B. Moderate

C. Heavy

What is the reason why there’s heavy traffic?

A. Road construction

B. Accident

C. Counter flow

D. U turn
What is the effect of heavy traffic to the commuters?

RESULTS

3 out of 30 answered A. light

3/30 x 100% = 10%

7 out 30 answered B. moderate

7/30 x 100% = 23.3%

20 out of 30 answered C. heavy

20/30 x 100% = 66.7%

DISCUSSION

This study was conducted in Pampanga

The study was conducted to access traffic condition in Pampanga , to find out
if the said place is secured and the traffic condition is free to flow to eliminate
the crime.

This study conducted to determine the personnel profile of the respondents in

terms of age. It also aim to determine the perceptions of an effective
implementation of traffic condition.
CONCLUSION

The assessment of the cumulative impacts of road construction and use is

seldom adequate. Although many laws, regulations, and policies require some
consideration of ecological effects of transportation activities, such as road
construction, the legal structure leaves substantial gaps in the requirements.
Impacts on certain resources are typically authorized through permits.
Permitting programs usually consider only direct impacts of road construction
and use on a protected resource, even though indirect or cumulative effects
can be substantial (for example, effects on food web components). The
incremental effects of many impacts over time could be significant to such
resources as wetlands or wildlife.

Elements of the transportation system, including the types of vehicles and their
fuels, will continue to evolve. Changes in traffic volume and road capacity,
mostly through widening of roads rather than construction of new corridors,
have smaller but nevertheless important ecological effects compared with the
creation of new, paved roads.

RECOMMENDATION

The many opportunities that arise for mitigating or reducing adverse

environmental impacts in modifications and repairs to existing roads should
not be overlooked. Environmental considerations should be included when
plans are made to repair or modify existing roads, as well as when plans are
made to build new roads.

More attention should be devoted to predicting, planning, monitoring, and

assessing the cumulative impacts of roads. In some cases, the appropriate
spatial scale for the assessment will cross state boundaries, and especially in
those cases, collaboration and cooperation among state agencies would be
helpful.
Improved models and modeling approaches should be developed not only to
predict how roads will affect environmental conditions but also to improve
communication in the technical community, to resolve alternative hypotheses,
to highlight and evaluate data and environmental monitoring, and to provide
guidance for future environmental management.
