Homework 1

This document discusses transitions in the classroom. It identifies several types of transitions that may occur, such as moving between classes or activities. It also lists some strategies teachers can use to facilitate positive transitions, such as giving advance warnings of upcoming transitions, using motivators like rewards, and establishing clear routines and expectations for transitions. The document observes one teacher who uses signals, motivators, and an organized routine to help students transition between activities smoothly with minimal behavior issues. It recommends teachers carefully plan and practice transitions to control the classroom environment and encourage positive student behavior.

HOMEWORK1

Observation Task 3: Managing Transitions

Search about the definition of transitions and make a list of transitions you are likely to observe
during the school day and the type of strategies that the teacher may apply to facilitate them.
Create a table such as the table below to:

o Identify 2/3 transition times in a lesson.

o List the type and function of the transitions that you observe.
o Identify the strategies that are used by your MST to facilitate these transitions.
o Comment on the success of these strategies in terms of both promoting positive
behavior and minimizing the incidence of challenging behavior.
o Make practical suggestions about how these transitions could be modified in
order to further promote positive behavior and minimize the incidence of
challenging behavior.
Note: Word count is 300 words.
HOMEWORK1

In many classrooms, it is during transition times that things get a little chaotic, so that leads to
behavior problems. While, some of teachers they organize their times in transitions. There are
some lots of time to transitions in a lesson such as period between class to another, activity to
another or move to any tasks. However, during my TP I observed that function of the transition
there is some types of it for example my MST teach students some movements to move to
another activity and in some days, she says some words so students they know its cleanup time,
time to sit down or it's time to move to another activity. Also, giving advance warning such as
“You have five minutes before cleanup.” so this gave students to work hard before stopping the
activity and let students to plan how they would manage the transition. On other hand, I observe
that my MST used some strategies which is tell students who will finish first and do a next activity
will get a happy face, encourage students who finish a task early will move to playing corner also
used classdojo for students who transitions by organizing to give students a point. So, I believe
that strategies will help the teacher to control the classroom, more positive behaviors for
students, organize the time in a lessons and students will be more attention with the teacher. To
sum up, the teacher must be careful with the transitions in classroom without any mistakes
because that will help the teacher to control the class and be more active with the students so it
should be enthusiastic to encourage students to do well. Also, I prefer that students learn the
transitions from the first day so it will minimize the incidence of challenging behavior.
