Joginpally B.R. Engineering College: Nuclear Power Generation

This document is an abstract about nuclear power generation. It summarizes that a nuclear power plant uses heat from a nuclear reactor to generate steam and power a turbine to produce electricity, as in a conventional power plant. Nuclear power plants can operate as base load stations because fuel is a small portion of the cost of electricity production. While nuclear power plants provide clean energy, they also have some merits and demerits. The current status and future of nuclear energy is also briefly discussed.

NUCLEAR POWER GENERATION

ABSTRACT

A nuclear power plant is a thermal power station in which the heat sou rce
is a nuclear reactor. As is typical in all conventional thermal power stations the
heat is used to generate steam which drives a steam tu rbi ne connected to an electric
generato r which produce s electricity. Nuclear power plants are usually considered
to be base load stations, since fuel is a small part of the cost of product ion. Nuclear
power plants are not located accordi ng to specific attributes of geography, and are
therefore found al l over the worl d. A lthough as a coin ha s two sides, n uclear
power plants also have many merits and demerits. The present status of nuclear
energy and future is also discussed further.
