CE227 Course Syllabus
CE227 Course Syllabus
Course Description: The course deals with structures modeled as single-degree-of-freedom systems. It
introduces basic concepts in Structural Dynamics and presents important methods for the solution of
such dynamic systems. It also introduces important concepts and methodology for multi-degree-of-
freedom systems through the use of structures modeled as shear buildings.
Course Outline:
I. Structures Modeled as a Single-Degree-of-Freedom (SDOF) System
1. Undamped SDOF System
2. Damped SDOF System
3. Response of One-Degree-of-Freedom System to Harmonic Loading
4. Response to General Dynamic Loading
5. Response Spectra
6. Nonlinear Structural Response
II. Structures Modeled as Shear Buildings
1. Free Vibration of a Shear Building
2. Forced Motion of Shear Building
3. Reduction of Dynamic Matrices
