To whom it may concern:
I am excited to say that I am writing to express my interest in applying for an elementary school
teacher position in the Houston Independent School District. I recently graduated from the
University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Teaching and Learning, and I am
certified to teach EC-6 in Texas. I am interested in working with learners in Kindergarten
through Fourth grade. As a previous learner in HISD, I am excited for my turn to make an impact
within the district.
While completing my Bachelor’s degree, I had the opportunity to observe many schools around
the Houston area including low socioeconomic, urban, and magnet schools. I also completed a
yearlong student teaching placement in HISD at Pilgrim Academy where I perfected my teaching
style by independently teaching over sixty learners. I was enlightened by the different types of
learners in my classroom and learned from them daily. Every learner was unique which pushed
me to emphasize on individualized instruction when creating and implementing lessons. I use
multiple methods to teach so that there is always an equity of learning in my classroom. I excel
with English Language Learners and have created multiple differentiated lesson plans and
materials to better assist and assess these students. Student teaching at a Title I school
enlightened me of the history, languages, and cultures learners have and deepened my desire to
make an impact in the community I once lived in.
Houston Independent School Districts mission statement best matches my teaching philosophy,
to equitably help learners reach their highest potential. I feel that I will grow and prosper as a
beginning teacher within the district. I have attached my resume and anticipate meeting with
you to share my goals, philosophies, and abilities to educate the future. Thank you for your time
and consideration.
Sincerely,
Eva Calvo
