Project Name Handri Niva Sujala Sravanthi Irrigation Scheme: Right Bank Canal

This document provides design details for a pipe culvert structure located at 1.907 km along the Right Bank Canal. It includes hydraulic calculations to determine the required pipe diameter and design of the upstream and downstream headwalls. The key points are: - Hydraulic calculations determine the required discharge can be carried by two 1.4 meter diameter pipes. - Scour depth calculations at both ends show the foundation levels are adequate. - Loss of head calculations inside the barrel confirm the loss is within allowable limits. - Design parameters for the trapezoidal shaped upstream and downstream rubble masonry headwalls are provided.

2 VENTWAY CALCULTIONS -
Discharge (Des) - 2.06 cumec
Bed Width - BW - 0.65 m
Side slope - s - 1.5 , :1
Adopting - Q= 2.86 A x h 1/2 =
Assuming Driving Head = Minimum 0.15 m
From the above formula -
A= Q / ( 2.86 x h 1/2) =
A= 2.06/(2.86x0.15^1/2)= 1.86 sq m
let n = Number of Rows = 2 No
Diameter of Pipe = D ={ A /(n x π / 4)} =1/2

(1.86/2*0.7854^)(1/2)= 1.08 m
We take a slightly higher pipe size for additional safety
Say choose a pipe of diameter D = 1.40 m
From selected pipe Discharge = Q = 2.86 A x h 1/2 =
2.86x2x0.7854x1.4^2x0.15^(1/2)= 3.4102 cumec
Discharge through pipe is = Q des = 2.06 cumec
Discharge through pipe is greater than design discharge Hence
Pipe size OK
Therefore provide 2 Row of 1400 mm φ diameter
RCC NP-3 Hume Pipe.
Length of pipe = 600.00 m
Thickness of Pipe = IS : 458 - 2003 0.085 m

f1 is the co-efficient of loss of head at entry -
f1 = 0.505
Assuming that the walls inside the barrel / pipes are plastered
a= 0.003
b= 0.01
f2 ( at entry) = a ( 1+ b / R ) =
0.003x(1+0.01/0.175= 0.003
Loss of Head inside barrel = (hf) = ( 1 + f1 + f2 x L / R) x V 2/2g =
