Foreword 
Approval of Level 3 Training. 

The BINDT Approval Panel, which reports to MQ&E (Membership, Qualification and Education Committee) routinely accredits training courses at Level 1 and 2.  
Courses are approved as meeting specific requirements, (generally defined in terms of an examination syllabus) and the object of the exercise is to ensure that all 
aspects of the syllabus are addressed within the training course at a suitable level and depth. 
 
Most courses that are accredited will be for training prior to PCN examinations but that need not always be the case.  For instance if an ATO has a requirement to 
train candidates to perform a range of well defined tasks, then a training course could be designed, and subsequently accredited by BINDT as meeting those 
requirements and would be listed under part 2 of the approval list. 
 
The syllabus is well defined, therefore a training course can be designed to cover those areas of learning.  This works well for Level 1 and Level 2 training but it 
does not work at Level 3.   
 
Level 3 courses need to be well versed in a very broad range of knowledge and the candidate should be familiar with Product Technology, the other four main NDT 
methods, Procedure Writing and so on. 
 
The way that we address this dilemma is to define three main requirements that training centres must meet if they are to be recognised as providers of Level 3 
training: 

1. The tutors must be Level 3 Certificated. 
2. The training school must have available the defined Essential Reading material. 
3. There must be a system in place whereby candidates are assessed on arrival, (or beforehand), in order to identify the gaps in their knowledge.  The 
training course must then be specifically designed to address those areas of weakness. 
 
The course content must be designed as a bespoke product, suited to a particular individual.  Any training establishment that meets the three requirements set 
out above may request that BINDT recognises that they are capable of offering Level 3 training courses and once proven at audit can be listed under part 3 of the 
approval list but will not be included on their certificate of approval.

PART I 
Accredited Non‐Destructive Testing (NDT) Courses Available  
 
 

Note: Courses validated as suitable pre‐approval training for PCN examinations also broadly satisfy the General Theory and Product Technology requirements of 
employer‐based schemes (e.g. NAS 410, EN 4179 and SNT TC 1A).  
Any course offered under a company‐based certification scheme must also satisfy the requirements of the employer’s written practice and training programme. 
It is the employer’s responsibility that any necessary company specific training that would fall outside the validated course syllabus and content is adequately 
addressed.  Condition Monitoring courses are in accordance with ISO18436 and CMGEN. 

 
All courses listed below are approved as suitable preparation for the corresponding PCN examinations.
