Algebra - Level 1

This document provides instructions for a lesson on recognizing color patterns for primary school students. The lesson objectives are to recognize different types of colors and learn color sequences repetitively. Students will use an online manipulative to describe color patterns starting from the upper left corner and extending the pattern by clicking on buttons. The instructor should encourage students to describe patterns in their own words. Students can check their work and receive feedback to improve recognizing and extending patterns.

Teachers will want to make sure students know that patterns are things that repeat and that we
want to be able to recognize and describe patterns because it makes description and prediction
easier.

Students will benefit from describing the sequence of colored buttons starting from the upper left
corner of the workspace.

The instructor should encourage students to use their own words to describe any patterns they
observe. Once a pattern is observed, students should extend that pattern by clicking on a button
with a question mark and clicking on the appropriate color.

Students can fix any mistakes and can then check to see whether they have correctly identified
and extended the pattern by clicking on the Check button.

After working with this manipulative, it may be fun for students to go to the Pattern Block
manipulative to create their own pattern and have another student continue that pattern.

Color Patterns

Using this virtual manipulative you may describe a colour pattern,

x Starting from the first circle to the last circle to describe the sequence of the colour.

x Click on the red, click on the

appropriate color to extend the
pattern.

x Click on the purple,

x When every circle is fill up with

colours
x Then click on the check answer
button to check the answer.

x If the answer is correct a good job

massage will appear on the top
center.

x Click on the new problem to get a

new colour pattern
x

x There is a lot of colour pattern which contain easy and difficult level

This is the easy pattern becauseit

has only contain two colour

This is the difficult colour pattern

because it has many colour (more
than 3 colours)

If the pattern has uncorrect colour

sequence it will an ‘opps’ message
appear.

At the end of the lesson the students will understand how to arrange sequence colour.
