H2SO4

H2SO4 is a strong mineral acid with high corrosive strength. It is considered as king of acids.
It is colorless but very slightly yellowish liquid and soluble in water at all concentration. It is
an oxidizing agent and a dehydrating agent. It boils at 611k and freezes at 283k.

Initially the color of H2SO4 was colorless. Cloud of yellowish fumes were observed when we
dipped our nails in the H2SO4 beaker, due to formation of SO42- ions:

2H2SO4 + Fe SO2+2H2O+SO42-

Throughout the experiment weight loss of iron and steel nails was observed in H2SO4 due to
corrosion.
