Black paper

Lesson Development/Procedures
Pre-assessment: Teacher asks “What color is a shadow? How can you make a shadow?” Student responses.
Engagement: Turn classroom lights off, provide students with flashlights. Allow students to move around the room creating
shadows using classroom objects.
Activity: Students will create sculptures of choice using aluminum foil. Students will attach sculptures to color paper and trace
the outline of the shadow created by sculptures. Students will cut the shadow created out of the color paper and glue onto black
paper to create the effect of a shadow.
Transition: Whole group discussion of how students created their sculptures and shadows.
Closure: Write an opinion piece about whether or not students enjoyed the activity.
Assessment: (Review of Anticipation Guides; Post-tests; BCRs; Quizzes; Tests; Projects; Essays: Performance Assessments, etc.)
Assessment is their created piece and writing.
Differentiation:
Small group writing support and natural differentiation based on ability to create sculptures.
