4 Known issues and limitations

4.1 Security
• The FDT/DTM technology is based on Microsoft XML technology. Issues concerning XML
might also affect Frame, CommDTM or DeviceDTMs. To ensure security please update
your Operating System regularly and apply measure like firewalls etc.
• Some DeviceDTMs might be susceptible for overload of interfaces (DOS attacks)

4.2 Installation/Un-Installation

4.2.1 General issues

 Installation Manager needs .NET 3.5 SP1 as prerequisite. This is available via
installation or enabling (see below)
For installation on the DVD at:
FieldCare\Software\System\Components\DotNet3\dotnetfx35.exe
 Installation Manager needs .NET 4.0 as prerequisite. This is available via installation.
A version is available on DVD in Common\DotNet
 Installation or un-installation needs to be done with Windows „Administrator‟ rights.
 The compliance to the system requirements is not checked. Please consult the
Technical Information of FieldCare for system requirements and operating system
needed. You may also consult the technical information by the driver manufacturer.
 Before starting the installation all running applications shall be closed, it is
recommended to restart the PC.
 To prevent loss of data it is recommend that data is saved before the upgrade
installation.
 The installation of FieldCare (VB Script) may cause virus scanner software to signal an
alarm. In such a case please contact your local system support to verify if this is a real
virus issue or just caused by the VB Script scan option of your virus scanner without
being an issue.
 During the installation of FieldCare it might be required to restart the computer up to 3
times because of the required system components: Microsoft Framework .NET3.5,
Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express.

 Using the FieldCare Installation Manager for installation several blanks might appear
– this is due to the fact that some components where shifted to the Installation
Manager.

4.2.2 Windows Operating System specific issues

 General
o System requirements and Operating System Support are only related to the
FieldCare Frame Application; please also read the release notes of the DTMs.
 Installation mit Windows Server 2008 R2:
o Microsoft IIS uses port 80. To start the web reported it is necessary to adapted
either the port used by MS IIS or the port used by the webreporter.
 Languages
The Regional Settings for Non-Unicode Programs need to be changed to each region,
e.g. "Chinese (China)" for Chinese characters.

4.2.3 FieldCare Updates

 Update installation is technically possible for FieldCare versions: V2.02.00.835,
V2.02.01.853, V2.02.02.863, V2.03.00.1055, V2.04.00.1137, V2.05.00.1203,
V2.06.00.1266, V2.07.00.1424, V2.08.00.1538, V2.08.01, V 2.09.00 and V 2.09.01.
o It is recommended to perform updates only to the next higher version stepwise.
o FieldCare field trial versions are not automatically updated, please contact your
local Endress+Hauser Service for support.
 Updates from V2.0.0.200 and V2.01.00.383 are only possible if an update to FieldCare
V2.04.00 or higher has been performed before.
 Update from FieldCare V2.01.00 to newer versions can fail under Windows XP
o If the update fails, proceed as described:
- Download the Microsoft Hotfix KB917344 (JSSCRIPT 5.6) for your Operating
System.
- Delete the FieldCare database fmp.gdb (normally C:\Program
Files\Endress+Hauser\FieldCare\CM)
- Install the Hotfix and repeat the update procedure.
 Updates of FieldCare for Windows NT and Windows 2000 systems are no longer
supported. However FieldCare project data can be exported from those systems and
imported into FieldCare running on newer Windows systems.
 Exception:
o Projects exported with FieldCare V2.02.xx are not compatible to previous
FieldCare Versions.
 Update form FieldCare V2.08.01 to V2.09.00 might cause problems when files in
TEMP folder are deleted.
 Updating FieldCare from a different resource path requires browsing to resource
location.
 De-Installation of FieldCare 2.09.XX and subsequent installation of FieldCare 2.10.00
might cause issues with the SQL server installation. Please also de-install SQL server
completely or use standard update procedure.

4.3 Patches
 As part of FieldCare package you might also find patches to the latest version of
FieldCare.

These patches are located in the folder \Common. In order to install these patches
please execute AppPatcher.exe.

4.4 General FieldCare functionality

 If a project is used which contains DTMs that have been deleted or uninstalled by the
system, an error message appears. Please update the DTM catalog after each
installation or un-installation of any DTM.
 Insufficient working memory, virtual memory or hard disk memory may cause
FieldCare to become unstable. Please refer to the section System Requirements of the
installation medium to verify your hardware is suitable to run FieldCare.
 Plant and Device Tags in inventory view are updated only using “Create Network”.
These Tags are updated just in case they were manually edited.
 Web-registration for a FieldCare PAM license in conjunction with Windows 2003
Server does not work, please contact your local Endress+Hauser sales organisation.
 Exports/Imports via *.csv files do not contain any ENP / I&M parameter
(ENP=Electronic Name Plate / I&M = Identification&Maintenance).
 The user management is disabled per default; it can be enabled using the FieldCare
Administration tool.
 The activity logging has been disabled per default.
 The texts in the activity logging are available in English only.
 The device ENP number is displayed in the network device info view.

 “Create network” does not support Remote I/O or 3 party communication
components. You can manually assign DTMs to be recognized via “Create network”.
 Using one screen after using two screens before it may be that messages from
FieldCare are not displayed – please use TAB to access these messages.
 In order to use DTM data from DeviceCare the file type has to be changed from *.dcdtm
to *.fcdtm.
 Before starting Condition Monitoring “Guardian” the project needs to be saved.

4.5 W@M
 The FieldCare W@M function is disabled per default, it can be enabled using the
FieldCare Administration tool. W@M features can only be used together with a local
installation of W@M Enterprise or together with valid user-ID and password of a
W@M account.
To get a W@M account please contact your local Endress+Hauser sales representative.

4.6 Printing/Documentation
 Printing to a PDF file is not possible if there is no printer installed.
 In order to document the Plant View, the HOST PC must be selected: the corresponding
menu appears grayed if any other device is selected.
 Landscape printing is not supported.
 While printing an empty project an error message might appear.
 If an attempt is started to print an application report of an empty project, there might
be shown an error message.
 Error message while printing a report without having a printer installed.
 In case there is no printer installed on the computer any print operation will fail and
might result in an error message, especially while printing a report.

4.7 Transparent Gateway- and Placeholder DTM

 It might be necessary to reassign this DTM for projects that were generated with
FieldCare 2.0.0.200.

4.8 HART

4.8.1 Usage of the RS232C interface

 HART communication cannot be shared with Endress+Hauser CommuWin. In order to
use CommuWin after FieldCare, either you have to reboot the computer or stop and
restart the COM Port driver manually. CommuWin II offers a tool for this purpose. The
tool is named C2hrtrst.exe and is located in the DDE Server directory and can be started
with following parameters: "c2hrtrst magic COMx" where x is 1, 2....
 Deactivate the FIFO buffer of the COM interface in the event of HART communication
problems.

4.8.2 HART CommDTM

 Trying to establish a connection with the CodeWrights HART Communication DTM and
MACTek USB Modem without having the modem physically connected will cause
errors.
 Issues may occur when connecting two modems FXA195 at the same time. To avoid
this, please disconnect one modem.
 You may only access virtual Comm Ports with admin rights. Using FieldCare standard
user rights may and therefore HART Comm Port with standard user rights may cause
errors.

4.8.3 Endress+Hauser Fieldgate FXA520

 Please refer to the release notes of the FXA520 on the accompanying installation
medium.
 Please contact the service in case of FXA520 compatibility issue with .NET2.
Workaround is available in service information.

4.8.4 Generic HART

 Parallel installation of Generic HART Version 3 and Version 6 is possible.

4.8.5 Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-HMM16 HART Multiplexer

 For additional operating system information or frame applications please refer to the
according product specific release notes.
 The DTM is not released for third party frame applications.
If however the DTM is used within a third party FDT frame application,
Endress+Hauser will not guarantee correct functionality.
 Under certain conditions the P+F Multiplexer DTM can cause in accordance with .NET2
communication failures.

4.8.6 Communication via HART Bluetooth and USB Modems

 When connecting to a HART instrument via an USB or Bluetooth modem, there may
appear interruptions in the communication between instrument and another Host. In
this case the user has to ensure that the interruptions in the communication may not
lead to problems in controlling or observing the plant.

4.9 PROFIBUS

4.9.1 SOFTING (Trebing+Himstedt) DTM library

 The Trebing+Himstedt release notes are included on the installation medium. These
release notes also contain a Hardware compatibility table.
 Trebing+Himstedt CommDTMs are working 30 days in evaluation mode. If you intend
to use it after this period in combination with a FieldCare PAM license, please send
your FieldCare Serial Number and Trebing+Himstedt “license.dat” file to
[email protected], a full license will be returned within 6
working days.
 If a PROFIBUS driver is already installed (e.g. Siemens), the T+H library installation
overwrites at installation time the default settings for the PROFIBUS. It can result in
none running PROFIBUS based application anymore. The work around is to re-
instantiate the PROFIBUS default settings to work with the previous driver.
One consequence is that if various applications are running on the same PC and are
using different PROFIBUS driver, it must be foreseen to switch the driver before using
the according application.
To switch the drivers the Trebing+Himstedt installation provides several programs to
switch the driver assignments. Please refer to the Trebing+Himstedt DTM section in
your Windows START-menu folders.
 While using the ET200M with more than one HART device connected, the multiple
selection and connection to the HART devices might result in a non-connectivity status
of one or more devices even they are recognized and working properly.
The error message might be: "The communication DTM sent abort" or "The DTM did not
response to a request to shut down a connection to a device and is likely busy".
You can bypass this problem by selecting and connecting to each single device
separately.
Once this error appears a restart of FieldCare is required to reset the DTM connection
without losing any information.

4.9.2 Softing PROFIdtm

 The Softing PROFIdtm may be license restricted if you do not have administrator rights
and using FieldCare.
 WindowsXP Chinese: Softing PROFIdtm may not install properly. Install the PROFIdtm
a second time using FieldCare InstallationManager.
 Restart may be necessary to activate drivers in Windows.
 The Profiboard driver has to be installed separately.

4.9.3 Procentec PROFICORE / Commbricks

 Procentec PROFICORE / Commbricks can‟t be operated with Siemens DP/PA Link.

4.10 FOUNDATION Fieldbus

4.10.1 NI-Modem
 The installation of the NI drivers may be interrupted if Windows Installer >=4.5 is
installed on the computer. In this case, please take care to install the NI drivers before
FieldCare is installed.

4.11 Schneider EtherNet/IP

 Schneider EtherNet/IP CommDTM is not capable to route networks.
 Schneider EtherNet/IP CommDTM does not Save and Load of parameter configuration.

4.12 iDTM HART

4.12.1 Language Support

 iDTM HART Software and Help are available in English language. The supported
languages for each device depend on the DD/EDD itself.

4.12.2 DDS Core issues

 In exceptional cases, it might be that DDs of the version 5 shall be used which are not
yet supported by the iDTM. In these special cases please remove the version 5 DDs
from the system and use the version 4 DDs instead.

4.12.3 FieldCare “Create Network”

 Handling of iDTM HART in FieldCare is identical as with any other DTM. It also
supports the FieldCare function “Create Network”, which scans the network for
available devices and automatically assigns the corresponding DTM or iDTM HART.
FieldCare V2.08.01 and higher will always assign the native DTM if available, else it
chooses iDTM.

4.12.4 Error Message when updating iDTM library

 When updating iDTM library from previous version an error message indicating
“Contact your support personnel” is displayed. Please press ok and proceed.

4.12.5 Error Message after updating iDTM library

 After updating iDTM library from previous version an error message indicating
“Duplicate device types are found…” is displayed. Please ignore and proceed.

4.13 iDTM FOUNDATION Fieldbus

4.13.1 Language Support

 iDTM FOUNDATION Fieldbus Software and Help are available in English language. The
supported languages for each device depend on the DD/EDD itself.

4.13.2 Error Message after updating iDTM library

 After updating iDTM library from previous version an error message indicating
“Duplicate device types are found…” is displayed. Please ignore and proceed.
