Religion and Testimony: ‘Qes’ Codes

Kathleen Broer, MM University of Toronto 1987

The narratives of Christ were mapped on to meusan narratives with

significant altering tones, suggestive of a dia-chronus dictate--such
as those found on sites of privilege, in Utrecht domains.

Scripted ‘qes’ roles in play within catedra districts were

formulations for a reordering system within upon privilege during
regnant rule--such as that of Traichtem on the Germanicus limes along
Rijn districts. As such, qes roles presaged a “nonce” cult which
messaged insiders in a group, through the evrout forum cults at both
Wognum and Woerden directed from l'Abbaye de Lyre, ca. 1046.

An exult rite system was thence forth celebrated in like manner;

as Pieterskerk Utrecht meusan text above Christ’s head indicates with
the words, “Jhc nat Yre ni Rex I ud eorx” meaning I here night right
nigh king here first waters--a reference to evroult chant.

The St. Pieterskerk, Utrecht Sacramentary attached to the worship

culture of St Paul’s Abbey, was inculcated as an ordinance from the
‘kruisen’ in Utrecht [Ms. 163] and had been attributed to Sint
Odilbald and his patronized legates [d. 898 AD].

After a debilitating disagreement over the use of tone, the

patronage dictates were relieved, signalling a change in influence of
tone by means of ordinance. In the aftermath a romaans reliëf of
Meusan tile depicting John the Baptist had been commissioned and
installed at Janskerk between 1175-1200; meusan romaan relief choir
tiles of the ‘passio’ of Christ had also been installed at Pieterskerk
in 1180 to exchange on originating customaries.

Missal and Breviary culture from this period had been redressed
through Paris after having enjoyed privileges under a long rule from
Liege, Cologne, Munster and Reims patronages which had exchanged upon
‘virtue’ systems. Choral presentations of the rule were attributed to
the romaans relief materia of both Janskerk and Pieterskerk.

Both bishops Ansfried [d. 1010] and Bernold [d. 1054] were
involved in this redress process. Pieterskerk was built on the eastern
edge of the kerkenkruis in the city of Utrecht, dedicated to Peter the
Apostle.
Its re-originating foundation patronage was considered in a
series of cluniac collegiate churches at Utrecht in a spate of cultic
energy, beginning with Janskerk [1040], initialized after Pieterskerk
[1039; May 1, 1048] and Pauluskerk Abdij [1006, Ansfried; 1050,
Bernold] from a period of tumult within the registry under Bernold,
Bishop of Utrecht [1026/27–1054]. The tones were depicted through
originating customaries in visual detailing, through scriptural
notations.
