Universal Design for Learning (UDL): BrainPop Video on community helpers. The teacher will read the story
out loud.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will ask students if anyone knows what a Community Helper is. If they think a teacher is a
community helper and why. The teacher will then explain what a community helps is and ask students who
are some people that help others. The teacher will read a story; Whose Hat is This? The students will identify
who where’s that hat. The teacher will then play a BrainPOP on community helps

Students will match different jobs to the tools that each community helper wears. Students will complete
buddle maps on several community helpers. At the end of the lesson, students will take the photos that they
brought to school and write how the person in the picture is community helps and why they chose that
person. Student work will be displayed on the classroom blog.
Importance of technology:
This lesson can be done without technology. However, the students will use the Smartboard to match tools to
its Community Helper. Students will watch a BrainPOP.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
With any technology, there can always be a problem with internet safety. Each parent will sign a consent
form, for students work to be shown. However, each student and parent will be given a number. With this
number, the student's works will be displayed on the line for parents to see and be informed. At no time with
any student’s name be displayed. There will also be passwords, that will allow students, parents, and
stakeholders to view our classroom.
Reflective Practice:
This lesson is designed to teach students about the people in their community that assist them every day.
Teaching them how important community helper is and why we need people like them in our community.
